Sims 3 Custom Content will not Install + failure
I just recently bought sims 3 this weekend.

After booting it up for the first time, it asked me to download a patch. So I did so because I like to keep up to date.
Afterwards, I tried installing some custom content from Sims Resources. Com

I downloaded a few .sims3pack, and placed them inside my Ea sims download folder like instructed..

Now, I get to the launcher, and confirm to download my content, each one says critical failure, and this has been going on for days. I'm starting to think its the patches' fault...
Any advice is appreciated. This is really frustrating!

-does running steam or sims 3 as administration does anything at all?

-at the bottom of my product, the version says Version 0.0.0.0.....
If so, how Do I update the game?

FIrst, stuff from TSR often comes zipped, depending on how you download it, so make sure it's unzipped in your downloads folder :-)

Version 0.0.0.0: Try clearing the game's temporary files. In that Documents directory, under Electronic Arts\The Sims 3. Locate and delete the following files:
  • CASPartCache.package
  • compositorCache.package
  • scriptCache.package
  • Sims3Logs.xml
  • socialCache.package
  • tslus.bin
  • Version.tag

you could use a tool called ccmagic. That is what I use to install custom content on my game.

I'm actually in the same boat as you except I'm trying to redownload stuff from the Store in order to meet the requirement of my transfered saves from another computer...

something seems to have happened recently, because a lot of people reinstalling the sims 3 is running into this, can't download their content and 0.0.0.0 - there's several threads about this problem, including my own...

Yeah, I've noticed about the store problems from others too...I can't even download any of my custom contents so I could play my damn game because of a damn error. :steamsad:

EDIT: That error is definitely related to the freaking version being stucked as 0.0.0.0 though...I just wanted to play my ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game. >.>

EDIT: Also, my older Sims 3 on the other computer is completely fine with this due to no-reinstall...except for my newly downloaded laptop's Sims 3...very weird indeed.

New Update: I have realized that I haven't registered my game. Now upon trying, I think it is because I have just played the game straight and now its too late to register it.... do I have to restart the game?

The Sims 3 downloaded from the Steam Store shouldn't need a patch (at least not before you attempt to access store.thesims3.com ); this download is locally registered - in Windows Registry - so should run just fine without registering with EA / Origin / origin.com / thesims3.com / etc. I suspect any patch offered before you attempt to access store.thesims3.com should be declined. Any valid game patch from Steam will come via a Steam download, just like the original game download did; NOT to be confused with a Store Patch.

The display of your TS3 CD-Keys is an FYI; NOT an indication that further registration is required. These will continue to display, whenever you start TS3 from your Steam Library, until you respond with the "Don't show this to me again" button.

Registering your The Sims 3 CD-Keys (each one valid only once) on an account, at either origin.com or thesims3.com , should either unlock some rewards content from (or get you SimPoints that you may spend at) store.thesims3.com - and will unlock a digital download, in the Origin client, of the corresponding The Sims 3 item. This Registration, beyond allowing you to add certain Store Content, will NOT affect how The Sims 3 (from the Steam Store) plays on your computer.

As all Store Content gets a version stamp during download and goes through a version verification during the installation process, said installation will FAIL - one way or another - if the displayed version (on The Sims 3 Game Launcher window) is 0.0.0.0! What works best for me is to have The Sims 3 Game Launcher open (with a valid version number showing - Launcher may be minimized, but should already be running), then log into store.thesims3.com in an Internet Explorer window and initiate the download process from the IE window.

Please Note: As an Undocumented Feature the in-game 'logins' (from either the Launcher or from the main menu) will respond with a failure message if you are already logged in! And the main menu won't recognize that you logged in via The Sims 3 Game Launcher!

Should you be having the 0.0.0.0 issue with a NEW install of The Sims 3 and should you choose to re-install: After uninstalling TS3 (by whatever means), make sure that any "The Sims 3" folders - either under Steam/SteamApps/Common or under Documents/Electronic Arts - are deleted, before you attempt to install TS3 again.

Also - should you attempt to verify the local steam cache (for TS3) - the two Windows Registry patch files will always fail to verify (possibly because these two files delete themselves after making the required Registry changes). This failure should trigger a Registry Cleaner to remove Registry entries that might conflict with another installation of TS3 (from Steam); yet another undocumented feature.

Necro'ing a 2-year-old thread? Seriously uncool. Try starting your own topic and posting your question there.

help me understand why it is not ok to "necro" an old post? What's the difference? This is the first result when I do a search for it, so why should I make a different one when it already exists

Generally for those of us helping troubleshoot, it is a lot easier if each person starts their own thread, describes the issue they're having, tells us their computer stats, and then lets us know what they've tried so far to fix the issue.

Most (absolutely most) of the time, a person resurrects a thread but they've misdiagnosed their issue and it's only serving to confuse matters.
