Fridge bugged
Ok ran into a bug where I can't move or do anything with my fridge in 'Buy Mode'. It keeps saying my roomate is using it and there's food rotting in it. If I zoom in I can see it but I can't do anything to it. I've tried using the 'moveObjects' to move the spoiled food and put it on the floor, but when I do that it doesn't let me interact with it anymore in any way. Even when I tell my roomate to clean it up, she doesn't do it. And hitting 'Delete' while moving it doesn't work either. Is there some other way I can get rid of the spoiled food? I tried searching for a solution that I haven't tried yet but not having too much luck.

Well I was finally able to get passed this bug by getting engaged to my roomate and being able to control her and picking up the rotted food. But now I've run into another bug. My roomates 'Needs' have stopped moving and I can't figure out how to get them working again. I've tried using the cheat mode again using 'TestingCheatsenabled true' and shift clicking on the mailbox and making needs static and then dynamic again but that didn't work. And I've tried moving her into a new house and back but still didn't work. I was really starting to get into the game too and this bug is quite a game breaker for me.

It sounds like something went wrong when your roomate was trying to use the fridge. The action was canceled but the fridge was still set as in-use. This is actually way more common with doors than anything else. You'll find your sims unable to use a door when this happens.

For future reference, you can fix this by installing the NRAAS mod Master Controller.
http://nraas.wikispaces.com/MasterController

There are a few ways you can use this to fix it. You can go into the household options and to the object reset option and reset the problem object. If you can't figure out which object it is in the list, or you don't want to look for it, or have a lot of glitched objects, you can instead use the option called Reset Lot, also in the household options. That will fix every object on your lot that is glitched in this way. If this is happening in more than just your active household, you can nuclear and choose the option "Reset Everything" when selecting the Master Controller options from a computer or city hall in the Town Options section. It'll take a while, but it'll reset all objects in the town. This might actually help reduce lag if there are objects with these glitches you're not seeing because they're not in your active house.

For your other problem, you can fix that by using the reset sim option in Master Controller, you need the cheats module for that, on your roomate and that should fix the problem with the stuck needs bar. You could also manually type in the reset sim command into the console. But since you'd get Master controller anyway for glitched objects, why not simplify the process?

If you'd rather use the manual command, this is what you put into the cheat box:

resetsim Firstname Lastname

replace those with your sim's first and last name and they should reset. It should be noted that the reset sim option in Master Controller is a bit more powerful and is more likely to solve a problem than the console command is. Though for this particular problem it should be sufficient. Though you should still only use either option when you have a serious problem like this. Sometimes things go wrong. Like there are cases where resetting a plumbbot (from the Into the Future expansion) removes their trait chips.

Yeah I had seen that 'resetsim' option too while googling for solutions but I was afraid that might reset my sim completely, such as my relationship and skills, etc. But eventually decided I had nothing left to use so I tried it anyways and seems only thing it reset was my 'needs' bars which was a relief. And thanks for the link, I'll check out that master controller. Is there a mod out there though with bug fixes that weren't fixed by the developers, like an unofficial patch?

There are several, each with its own purview.

For example: NRaas's Traveller fixes problems when Sims travel (to University or to vacation destinations), and Nraas's Overwatch automatically resets any Sim or animal who is stuck trying to get somewhere or age up, puts abandoned cars and children back where they belong, turns off unwatched TVs and unlistened-to stereos (left on when the Sim leaves home), resets glitched digital frames, and so on.

Does time sort of stand still in your regular home area when you're in the University? I had gone there a few times on a previous game and it always seemed to be the case. Well this time I sent both of my sims (husband and wife) off to the Univsersity even though I have 4 kids. I had a babysitter with them so figured nothing would go wrong. Well after completing the University and returning home, for some reason I seem to have lost one of my kids. I read up something about them being taken away if their needs are bad but when I left they were all in the green for all of them so I don't understand. Is it a bug or is that a risk you take when you send both parents off to the University as a way of bad parenting?

I tested something and exited back to the main screen to the log-in section and my family portrait that it shows does show my 2 sims and my 4 kids, yet ingame one of my kids is missing. Possibly the babysitter was holding it at the time I went to the University and it bugged it?

I also attempted the cheat 'resetsim' to see if that would restore my kid but didn't do anything. I tried to see if I could find to readd him to my home from the town editor but didn't have any luck there either. :-(

Well I managed to get the baby back. I went back into the town editor and merged my house with someone elses and the missing baby was indeed showing on the list, just missing from ingame though. So I put him in another house then immediately merged him back into my own house and he was waiting outside of my house for me to bring back in. Not the way I wanted to fix that bug but it worked.

The baby issue is common. It is just a bug. Off the top of my head I do not know if anyone actually knows why it happens. Something like what you did is about the only way to get it to show up again. Also could have tried splitting the household up with just the baby leaving, then merging it back in. Also could switch active households and through master controller, add the baby to that household by finding it in a list, and then you could have easily added it back (that way is useful when it's not showing up in the household list when you try to split the household).

Time does stand still in your home world when you're off at the university, the future, or any of the vacation worlds. Make sure you have Traveller installed like cruinne mentioned.
