Sims 3 Night time pitch black

I would provide a screen shot but I don't know how to do that on steam. The game is so dark at night. I have no idea why. It was never like this when I played before.

It's pitch black when the sun goes down. I can't even find things to interact with at night. Normally my sims would be sleeping so they can work the next day. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Be sure that your video drivers are up to date. That would be th first thing I check.

Also, what world are you playing? Some have different lighting effects so... does playing in a different world have the same "night's too dark" problem?

So yesterday I solved my issue I was having. It wasn't a matter of what world I was playing in, they are all pitch black. even the island paradise areas which are usually a bit brighter at night or well lit towns.

Apparently it's a Windows 8 compadibility issue. I had to turn off that feature on my computer when running the game. There was also a scaling box I had to check. I think I found the answer on The Sims 3 forums. It was so dark you literally couldn't see anything at night outside your house. Rooms inside were literally black except for what light illumination was there.
