Mercury Ingots?
Not the Large ones. Normal sized Mercury Ingots.
I've read numerous accounts online of getting Mercury Ingots as the "extra" ones when sending Mercury off to be smelted... but it has never worked for me. I've got level 10 Collecting and the "Metal Collector" bonus, so I'm getting extra results in the mail... but they're always vials.

So does anyone know of any way that works to get Mercury Ingots? Even mods or cheating, I'm not bothered. They're the ONLY thing I don't have in my gems / metals collection.

The only time I've ever seen a mercury ingot was when finding one in a World Adventures tomb. If you don't want to send your sim adventuring at the moment, you could place a few chests on their home lot and set them to produce a metal treasure. I'm not sure which one(s) offer mercury specifically, but I can check in-game if you want.

You'll also need to replace the chests after your sim opens them, that is unless you want to wait a while for the treasure to respawn.

I presume it would operate on the same principle as the ones in China / whatever? i.e. They only respawn when you make a new visit... which would be annoying for the home world.
I'll give it a try in any case.
I presume China would be the right country since China is the one that has Mercury.

[Edit]: I made about 20 chests with 5 items each. But it was Mercury Vials across the board (and a few Platinum ingots). Not a single Mercury Ingot. Maybe it shouldn't be set to China Metals... but then what else would it be?

[Edit2]: Tried all the Metals. Tried all the Ancient Dig Sites. Tried all the Tomb Loot. Mercury Vials in everything. Not a single Mercury Ingot. Was a nice try, but I'm starting to think Mercury Ingots got patched out of the game or something years back.

You could try the other countries, but it's quite possible that Mercury ingots don't exist on the game, since they try to make such things somewhat true to life, and mercury is a liquid at room temperature.

I already tried the other countries. Edit 2 in the last post. Funnily enough they ALL have Mercury Vials... but none of them have Mercury Ingots.

And in case you're not aware, Large Mercury Ingots are in the game and I know how to get those. And I've seen confirmation that normal-sized Mercury Ingots WERE in the game, but no proof that they still are. I wouldn't have even made this thread if I didn't know the item existed at some point.

Yes, I thought I had some vague memory of getting Mercury ingots, but I was not sure enough of it to say anything. Maybe I only got the large ones, like you did.
I'm curious why you want these small mercury ingots for your metals collection. Is it just for aesthetics in a display case? Are you trying to use them for a photography career? - in which case you only need the vials.

I cannot find anything online about the smaller mercury ingots - only the large ones. Do you have some links to share?

Display case. For my perfect museum. Or nearly perfect. I've got all the artifact collections complete, all the constructible tomb items, the axe of pangu, the eyes of horus, the Soulpeace Statue (or a copy of it), every single gem in every single cut (including the normally impossible ones), and a stack of every single metal ingot except Mercury.

I usually try to do this, or something like it. Last playthrough I also carved nude ice statues of every Sim I've ever played with photographs in matching poses to make a grandiose ice statue erotica museum... but I opted not to make copies of all my old sims this time... so no ice statue museum. Just the regular artifacts + gems + metals.

Have you tried searching? I have. The results all failed, which is why I made this thread, but I definitely tried searching for it first...

Unfortunately it seems the folks here know even less about it than I do... so far...
Cool museum.
I guess you are saying you were able to get these small mercury ingots in the past, but cannot get them now. I'm sorry cannot be of any more help to you. Maybe someone else will have some information.

You can try leaving a message for the person who created this guide and see if they know anything.

Might be worth a try, but I suspect they probably just copied the data over from Carl's guide...

Incidentally, the only two things I haven't tried yet are using the digger to find mercury... and buying from the Consignment Store... though it is worth noting I ~can't~ buy anything from the Consignment Store at present because it has no employees, and the town is currently too empty for any to be assigned (by design).
I've been forgetting to mention this, but my sim received a mercury ingot from smelting a few days ago. I'd thought it had to be due to something in World Adventures because the first time I saw the ingot, I'd been playing with only WA and Ambitions installed (plus some stuff packs). So it couldn't have been from a pet or magic or anything like that.

However, this time at least, my sim bought the unsmelted mercury that became an ingot from the consignment shop (Ambitions). And this time I'm sure that's where it came from.

That is one of the two things I haven't meaningfully been able to check yet... mostly because the town I'm playing in is mostly uninhabited because I deliberately erased most of the population. There is nobody to work in the Consignment Shop.

I'm contemplating trying to see whether I can raise a teenager to adulthood and employ them at the consignment shop, then move them out. So far I've only managed to send one generation of teenagers out into the world, and for some stupid reason all three of them (triplets) got the same jobs their parents already had (two science careers and one police).
If I can't actually employ anyone at the consignment shop, I'll just have to keep my Sims breeding until the town is full of people again. It is madness... but that is my best bet at present.

The only other thing I haven't tried was ONE fleeting mention of one of the relic merchants in the adventures locations selling raw mercury... but since I've no other reason to go back to those destinations (and the children make it awkward too), that has been a bit tricky.
There is a mod calles Treasure Chest. I once used it to build a stone museum with all of the stones in all of the forms available.
It's super cheaty, but it works if you're fine with it.
Also once you get an ingot, a sim with high science/logic and the requisite cloning machine can make them forever.
