The Sims™ 3

Why does my sim take 2 hours to have a shower?
My sim doesn't have enough time to sleep; he needs to wake up three hours early just to shower and play with/care for the pet dog.

Just taking all the papers out to the garbage(damn you paper delivery boy!) takes an hoour or two.

Everything just takes way too long.

You, my friend, need the Relativity mod from the good folks at NRaas Industries (http://nraas.wikispaces.com/Relativity). It takes a bit of setup (which can be done on the fly), but lets you alter the amount of game time it takes to complete activities. Enjoy.

Employer: "Why were you an hour late to work?"
You: "I had to take the newspaper to the garbage"

I also use Relativity and set my interval at 13. I think if you set it to "1" it will make the game progress "in real time".

"My house caught on fire. That's why I'm late."
"I'm firing you"

Seriously, did they even playtest this?

When not at work, my sim is trapped in his house cooking, washing up, looking after the dog and cleaning/repairing appliances; not even enough time to read a book.

Just a few household chores takes the entire evening - 8 hours :O

There's not even enough free time to go out during the week.

Will maybe install the relativity mod(thnx marstinson),; but damn, that looks like a cumbersome mod to install.

Install the relativity mod for sure, no "maybe" about it. It isn't cumbersome at all, and honestly saved me about 8 sim hours in my day from chores alone

Ok, installed Relativity, a popup displayed that the relativity mod is loaded when i fired up Sims 3.

But how do I access the mod to change the time modifiers in-game?

I'm on windows 10, but on Windows 7 I'm pretty sure you just have to click on the start menu, and then documents, then Electornic Arts, then Sims 3. Create a new folder within Sims 3, and name it Mods and within the Mods folder, create a folder called Packages then install this
http://nraas.wikispaces.com/file/detail/Resource.zip
extract that into the mods folder.
Once you've done that, install the mod in question
http://nraas.wikispaces.com/Relativity
extract it into the "Packages" folder within the mods folder.

To actually use it, buy a clock in game. Control Shift C opens the console, type "testingcheatsenabled true". Now when you click the clock Nrass is an option, click it and then relativity, and play with the settings at your will

Ok, thnx.
I also just discovered that the City Hall, clocks and computers in-game now have the Relativity options added to the menu.

Wow.
It's just so much more enjoyable playing at 25 speed.

Thanks a lot for the Relativity tips, guys.

have also a look at the overwtach mod, a must in my view.(also from nraas)
with it you can cleanup stuff in a jiffy, etc etc, no need to go into the consolemode for certain cheats.
and it does some good housekeeping to keep the worlds cleaner..and making them run faster.
there are quite a bit of usefiul mods theat reeally enhance sims 3.
google...and you find lists and lists..the nraas ones are very good, bugfree, so i tend to stick with them.
only got some skinpacks elsewhere.

Installation is simple. Just drop the Nraas_Relativity.package file into the \Mods\Packages folder and it's done. Removing it is just a matter of deleting or renaming it. I typically rename to save the hassle of finding stuff again if I change my mind later, but I also have a very cluttered \Packages folder. It's a trade-off, I guess.

The initial setup is also pretty straightforward. Click on any clock or computer or click on City Hall and select NRaas --> Relativity --> Set Speed

The game's default is 37, I think (working from admittedly faulty memory here). A lot of players like a setting around 17 to 19. 1 is real time, so lower is slower, 0 stops time, and negative numbers should not be used, but will function the same as zero. It's just something that you tinker with until you find a setting that you like.

There are a few activities that are unaffected by the mod because their duration is either hard coded or not connected to the game's clock. Reading Skill books is the first one that comes to mind, but there are others.

(EDIT: someone got to all of that before I did - should maybe read to the end of the thread before attempting to reply. Oh, well.)
