Too many expansion packs
My game is lagging now and when I tried to uninstall a couple, my game wouldn't start. It said there was an error. Help?

You can control the lag with some fixes, but if you'd rather go ahead and uninstall, you will need to also remove the entries for those EPs from your Windows registry.

There are instructions in my guide, below, in section 4.4 - you've already done the uninstall, so just skip to the step on deleting the registry entries.

If I can keep them all and fix the lags and glitches, I would actually like to keep them. I just assumed its because I have 8 expantion packs all running at once. What would be your best suggestion?

Get a better potato obviously, or at the very least grab faster RAM. Using an SSD also helps somewhat.

And a few things going on in game (like non player controlled SIMs) also adds to what can cause lags, best suggestion regarding this is installing nraas mods like master controller + errortrap and overwatch.

what expansions are you running exactly? you may just need to reinstall a few to fix the load orders-a faster computer helps but this is an older game you shouldn't have to upgrade, for context i'm running 8 as well on an old laptop with less than 8gb of ram.

Cahos is also correct in that overwatch can help a great deal, espically if you've been controlliing larger households since it reallocates and clears out unsused sims

I have Pets, Late Night, Ambitions, Island Paradise, Generations, World Adventures, Supernatural, and Seasons. I was just going to uninstall Pets and Seasons because I dont really care for it all that much. My laptop is a newer one and was running them all fine until I put on Island Adventures today

So to optimize:

  • Be sure you replace Isla Paradiso with a fixed version (if you're using it) - search for EllaCharmed Isla Paradiso on Mod The Sims.

  • In settings:
    • turn off Memories
    • turn off in-game store
    • turn off online notifications

  • Run NRaas Overwatch and Errortrap mods.

Don't always assume that someone has a Potato PC. I have a computer with a GTX 1070, an i7, 2 hard drives giving a combined 1.5 terrabytes, 60 gigs of DDR3 RAM, and I am still having severe lag issues.

That's because the game doesn't recognize RAM over 4Gb. I was looking into my own issues and found out that the game will start to lag and cause errors after about 3.5 gb is used, even if you have all the RAM in the world! This is a similar problem as to the new video cards not functioning properly. The game wasn't built around advancing technologies, lulz!

Also, with Master Controller, you can just go ahead and wipe out the entire towns memories as well. They don't need them. Unless those are for story progression. Then woops! (I've already wiped mine out).

I'm picturing a town full of amnesiacs wandering around saying, "Hey, do I know you? Do you who I am?"

Wasn't that an episode of Eureka?
