Is it bad to cheat?
I created a Sim and had him live a normal life and I had him do normal things such as going to work, hanging out with friends and exploring the town. I soon got annoyed of him continuing going to work, I never had time for my Sim to socialize and I never had the time to improve his "fun" moodlet. I decided to use cheats to earn Simolians, and I made my Sim rich. I purchased a big house, an expensive car and nice furniture. I'm kinda worried though, is it going to mess up my game or effect me in some way because I cheat? I know a lot of people cheat on The Sims but I'm not sure if it's safe. Nothing has happened to me yet but I'm still worried.

Nah, the only bad thing is that the game starts to getting boring and too easy with cheats.

Yeah, I assumed so, that's why I bought The Sims 3 bundle and one extra expansion pack during this sale. I don't think it's worth the $20 price but it's still my favorite game of all time (I purchased this game a few years back on Origin).

Use the cheats, but you just have to learn to use the cheats well. I use the "make all happy" just sometimes to help get a job done like exerccise, reading a skill, or at parties. Just don't use it all the time. Then there's the rewards which are part of the game...so those are fine. I hated the steel bladder because it's so unrealistic. I wish it worked more like the dirt defiant reward and they just went like once a day or every two. But what I did learn by leaving it alone is that bathroom usage gets better as your sim ages and gains other skills, especailly it seems exercise and athletic aspirations. They go, but they use it much less. You can also use the lifetime wishes and rewards to take days off work wihtout consequences and that helps too. I mix it up with the cheats because I like the challenges, but they do come in handy if you want your sims to do more.

I didn't realize that you could do those types of things with cheats, I have only cheated for Simolians. I want to play realistically like you said (other than the fact that I'm getting Simolians for free). I was considering purchasing the Steel Bladder with my Lifetime Rewards (I believe that is what they are called) but I realized it wasn't neccessary, so I bought something else instead. I think the Lifetime Rewards are still cheating but I still purchase them because, why not? I am not planning on using cheats to change their mood or anything like that though, unless I get really bored.
Some "cheats" you actually really need in order to build your ideal lots. Namely cheats like the enable floor constraints off one and the move objects one and the one that lets you place items next to each other that without the cheat won't allow you to do so normally.

it's pretty simple, do what is fun. If you're in a mood to do everything like clean the house or do laundry or go to work then don't cheat , when you want to do something or up a skill or get a degree but not in the mood to do it on that sim then use MC. doesn't mean you have to always use it, nor does it mean you can never use it. For instance, if i'm busy or not in the mood I'l use clean all or repair all, other times i'll send a sim to fix it. If i feel like visiting UNI i''ll take a sim and get a degree, if not I'll MC them one...it's not allor nothing. I use them when I want to or need to and don't when I don't.

Good to know.. I am still trying to learn how to build homes for my Sims. I am planning on doing so sometime soon.

Right, I know that I might learn some cheats here and there with my Sims if I'm bored or just lazy.

I figured it wouldn't affect me, but I still wanted to make sure. My Sims are living happily and healthy! :steamhappy:
Here are a few tutorials explaining the usage of those "cheats" I mentioned that are actually necessary when building houses:

That second link in particular is part of series of such tutorials.

Cheats, in general, won't ruin the game. Some over use of them may adversely effect "your" play. I've used the 50k simolian cheat a few times, to forego the wait of working for a couple weeks to compensate while I upgraded my environment. It doesn't hurt gameplay though.

As far as the other "cheats" like stated before. they can become necessary to build lots and place object realistically in your game. "Move objects on" is a non-cheat, cheat, that is very much needed. The floor elevation "cheat" becomes necessary for building how the game doesn't want you to build. There is also one that ignores the housing authority limitations, although I've had no need of it. And if you're placing premade lots made by other people, I would suggest using the "buydebug" cheat to give you visual aspects of spawners that they can sometimes incorperate. What the buydebug allows you to do, is see spawners. Those can cause issues when placing and rotating lots, and need to be completely removed if you want to rotate the building or remove the lot completely.

The building cheats, I don't consider cheating. Just enabling you to do things that are needed to be done. The cheats that add money? That's up to you. The others that freeze or raise your stats? Again that's up to you.

The only cheats that could adversely affect your game are the building ones. IF you do something the game can't handle. But I've never come across a situation that does that.

If you want more realistic play, I suggest NRaas to support, fix and generally improve the game. They have mods for everything. I normally recommend the few that minimize the games general bugginess. And most of those mods, aren't cheating. . . .just improving.

Mods? I don't want to mess up anything. I don't understand technical things very well. I had previously mentioned that I usally like playing the game how it was meant to be, and I don't see myself building lots. I don't even know how, where to start or what is the point? To be creative? I personally find playing with my Sims as originally designed most fun, execpt going to work. Does building lots have to do with making my household homes or literal community lots? I don't understand, I'm still learning.
ZaggRukk Feb 17, 2018 @ 7:31pm
lol (no offense). . .Building lots is entirely optional. I've built houses that I wanted to move into, before I've bought them. I do this, as it doesn't cost money to build a house in edit town. You just have to pay for it in the game when it's all said and done. For instance, I built a mansion that will cost my sim 1.8 million, if I choose to buy it outright. This also saves me time from slowly upgrading and moving to larger houses as my income allows.

Other buildings I 've built are based off of the mods and EP's I have. I'm currently building a exclusive lounge with some, "other" aspects. But I wanted to build my own bar, that my household will work in. I've also built lots based on what my town needed, such as subways, and I added onto a cemetary, as well as made some lots that are just for looks (using the buydebug cheat to open up static buildings that are just there for looks, ie: the radio tower).

Don't be scared by mods. The NRaas mods have step-by-step walkthroughs on how to make them work, wha they do, and what they change. And like I said, most of them are there to fix the problems that the vanilla game has. They reduce the amount of errors and crashes that the game gives itself. They also expand certain aspects of the game, adding more value to it. They range from editing the time and learning times to be more realistic to adding better careers to helping you fix some things that EA never bothered to patch. Mods don't mess up anything.

If mods are something that you might consider after you've looked into them, you can always come back to these forums for help/advice : )
