The Sims™ 3

Sims University confusing me
I just purchased World Adventures and University Life. I already had Generations, Pets, Seasons , and Future. To easily access the Future World, I'd just use the time machine. But I'm confused on accessing the University world. I thought maybe through a computer, or the town map. There is a University icon on Town Map that asks if I want to enroll. So do I have to enroll to get enthralled into the University world and it's map? What about my current home, job, and family? It's one thing, knowing while in the future, my current home doesn't progress, but what happens to everything while in University mode? And it figures, as soon as I bought the 2 expansions,
hoping for some solo adventure, my wife is pregnant. I can't travel the world if she progresses and has the kid. I'm trying to find online help. If I can gett the answers, I'll delete this thread. Thanks alot and Merry Christmas if it applies.

If you have University Life installed, you'll get a visit from the university mascot when you start a new game. They will leave you a green bucket with some university freebies and the entrance exam. You interact with the bucket to take the entrance test (it looks at your skills and tries to match you up with a degree that uses those skills). After doing that, you either interact with a computer or your smartphone (added by UL, btw - it was a Blackberry without Uni) and you'll have an "Enroll in University" interaction where you'll pick a degree plan, how many classes (1, 2, or 3) and how long your semester will be (1 week or 2 weeks). Once you accept and pay the tuition, you'll be headed off to Uni. Your home neighborhood gets frozen in time while you're away.

If you're seeing a university icon on your home neighborhood, you're using a custom map, but yes, you need to enroll.

Pregnant Sims cannot travel (making trying to travel or enroll in Uni a quick-and-dirty pregnancy test). If you want to travel with your pregnant Sim, you'll need to install mods (like Traveler from NRaas) and remove that restriction. Just be aware that there is no hospital in Uni or in the WA vacation worlds.

Aah....yes the goodies box has been on the front lawn for a few days now. Didn't even occur to me to check it out. Thanks so much

Also, I'm wondering can I stop my pregnant sim wife from having the baby if I go on an adventure? I'm anxious to try World Adventures

Kinda sorta no. You need a mod (Master Controller: (Sim) > NRaas > Master Controller > Advanced > Pause pregnancy) unless you're willing to face two problems: no hospital (home delivery only) and Infants can't travel.

It took me only a bit more than 10 years to discover it but you can send a pregnant sim to vacation world if she doesn't show obvious signs of pregnancy.
I have sent one with 17 hours. Pregnancy is paused during the vacation.

But you can't send her to the university

I bought University and Adventures because they looked fun , and I wanted something different. However, I'm finding it difficult to use them. I began a new household in town because I knew it'd be impossible to travel or go to college with a wife and newborn. So my new sim is a young adult. How can I travel if it's 3 days minimum and I'm too new at my workplace to have vacation time? Or....how am I to enroll to the university if I have my career? Or, if I were to adopt a cat or dog? I don't know......it seems like the 2 expansions I chose are difficult to use with a new job or a new baby.

You are never too new at your career to travel. When you travel, everything back home is frozen in time, and will be exactly as it was when you left. If you go on vacation with your spouse and you have a young child, the game will give you a babysitter, or you can hire one yourself before you leave. Your pets won't die of starvation, etc.

If you want to get access to longer vacations, then complete some quests in the town you are travelling to. The more quests you do, the higher your visa level and the longer you can stay next time.

Oh that is outstanding. That's what I enjoyed about the Future, but that was based on time,, so I understood the time freeze at home. Didn't realize Adventures worked similar.
