The Sims™ 3

The Sims™ 3

Is it possible to play more then one household
I played Sims 2+DLCs loads of times when I was younger but never really got into The Sims 3 until now, Now my sim and his partner now have multiple children but I don't wanna choose a single one to branch off to is it possible to switch between the two, when they move out.

This is only possible with downloading the Master Controller mod from the NRAAS website for mods. If you already have this mod downloaded in addition to a cheat module (which I will mention that module again later) you switch between families by first clicking on NRAAS when selecting one of your sims and second click on the "make active" option after selecting "Master Controller". After that you select "Different Household" and can very easily switch between families from there as many times as you want.

Also, if you have the Master Controller mod and it seems to be working as intended I would highly recommend downloading Master Controller cheat module as well from the NRAAS website for mods that allows more options than only just using the Master Controller Mod. For example, you can not switch between different households without this cheat module if I remember correctly and it also includes an instant baby option where someone can automatically give birth to babies of your choice without getting pregnant after selecting a donor which can include triplets (3 babies) or even sextuplets (6 babies). Some players might use the Story Progression mod as well for having more control over other families; although, all mods require having resource.cgf file downloaded or else none of the mods will work in the game. (On a side note, Story Progression mod might be more complicated to use than the Master Controller mod and Master Controller cheat module, but it is another option to having more control over other families.)

One final thing I want to mention about the Master Controller cheat module. It has to do with the fact that you can not use this module without the Master Controller mod. Master Controller mod has to be downloaded first before you can use the Master Controller cheat module, because modules are not mutually exclusive. All modules require a mod or else they will not work.

I have still been too lazy to download the NRAAS mods. What I do is never kick the children out of the home. Either I will build more floors on the existing home, or move them to a larger home, or buy a nearby lot or home for the children to live in with their families.

If you split them onto two different lots, they will still come "home" to the parent's house after work and other activities, but I have them locked out, and I make sure to tell them to travel to the correct house whenever they leave work. Once they are at the correct location, they will usually stay there and continue with normal life activities on their own. Sometimes it takes a few days for them to stop trying to go to their parent's house, but it eventually works just fine.

It's more work to keep track of so many people at the same time, but I enjoy it. It just gets a lot more complicated when the grandchildren arrive. Also, if I remember correctly, there is a limit to how many characters the game lets you actively play at one time, so eventually you do need to kick some family members out of the various homes.

The limit is just 8; although, with the "Mover mod" it is possible to have more than 8 sims for each household. Lets just say for example a house has a full size of 8 Sims (excluding pets which that limit is currently 6 that a family can have up 14 combined with 8 sims+6 pets), but does not have the Mover mod downloaded into The Sims 3 game. In that case scenario having grandchildren is not possible, unless if someone or a group of sims move to a different household not owned by your sim family as opposed to buying an additional house or a family member dies from old age or death caused by something else.

@davidnoble1996 already gave you the short version (get Master Controller) because it really does make the process a lot easier. What you're asking about is rotational play where you play as one household for a bit, then play as a different household for a bit, and so forth. You choose the households, so it can be just that extended family that you're wanting to do, or it could be the entire town if you're of a mind to. You can do it without MC by going into Edit Town and making another household the active one, but MC lets you do that with a couple of mouse clicks, so a lot less painful.

Just understand that the households you are not playing are going to continue on their merry way while you're not playing them. They'll change careers when you're not looking, change partners when you're not looking (married Sims tend to stay that way, but not always), and all sorts of things that you'll want to keep an eye out for. You'll probably want to turn off story progression if you're going to do rotational play because those non-active households are just townies as far as the game is concerned.

So theoretically I can play three siblings separately to an extent, I just need the switch between them every few days otherwise they'll turn a 180 on their household?

Things can change dramatically within just one minute. You never know. I was teaching a teen child to fish in some ponds across town and in less than a minute his parents had an argument and divorced. I wasn't even playing separate households.

If that can happen in an active household, it can just as easily happen if you are alternating households. The game just likes to throw in crazy stuff sometimes in order to keep things interesting.

Despite me using Master Controller important to keep in mind that I have never actually used the Story Progression Mod before, but I am aware that there are many different options available including how families are run from this mod.

Even with the master controller mod and me not using the story progression mod I have not really noticed any major changes going on within families. For as long as I played this game for example I have not noticed any major relationship changes yet such as marriage, divorce, or even sims getting pregnant from families that I have no control over, except for when a fresh new world starts where some sim families might already have a female sim that is pregnant when the game first starts. The one thing I did notice however as an exception to this is that from Appaloosa Plains even without the story progession mod is one male sim in particular who owned a dog apparently had someone move in with him who was a fiancee that I did not start their relationship or have the fiancee move in from a master controller mod, but his fiancee (who is a female sim) was not living with the male sim when the game first started.

You're using the game's story progression. My common description of it is "it ain't much of a story and it don't progress", which is why NRaas made theirs. There are some things where EA has "stacked the deck" with particular Sims, however. In Riverview, for example, Betty Simovitch and Bob Newbie are both teens. Almost without exception they will begin dating and eventually get married (explaining Betty Newbie in the original Sims game). It sounds like you ran into one of those in Appaloosa Plains.

I can give you the name the male sim from Appaloosa Plains. His name is Benjamin Schmidt and his fiancee was Hailey Shepherd before I intentionally broke them up from cheating in order for me to end Hailey's relationship with Benjamin (but without using mods and instead using the add sim to family cheat), but here is the thing. Although I intentionally made Hailey break up with Benjamin I noticed that her biography originally said that she is more interested in lovable puppies than a loving relationship with her lifetime reward being one that involves having 10 boyfriends. I do not know if Hailey Shepherd and/or Benjamin Schmidt are also on the Sims 2 game, but I am under the impression that she only started a relationship with him and even became his fiancee because of him having a dog. What remains unknown however is if she would have eventually married him or broke up with him if I had allowed the story progression to continue in her relationship with him.

I recently looked up the profiles for Benjamin and Hailey and found out they are only found on Sims 3 and not on Sims, Sims 2, or Sims 4, but they do have an interesting story. I also found out as well there are only three worlds on Sims that took place before The Sims and The Sims 2. They are Riverview, Sunset Valley, and Twinbrook.

actually you can do it without nraas aswell, just go click on ''edit town'' and then click on the household u wanna play with. But yeah its much easier with nraas

Not to mention as well as mentioned earlier it takes longer as well to have kids without using the Master Controller cheat. No instant baby cheats without Master Controller and Master Controller cheats module, and needing to spend more time in bed for having sex which at times may appear to be time consuming and annoying of selecting "try for a baby" until a woman finally gets pregnant, unless if wanting to enlarge a family size from adoption instead of genetics. I also tried using pollinate as another alternative to instant baby; although, it does not seem to working and was disappointed that female sims do not get instantly pregnant when I pollinate them from nraas (although, in theory perhaps pollinate requires less time having sex in bed before becoming pregnant as opposed to not using it). I did not know that different households could be played with from edit town and households could be switched from there as well (or in other words I could just as easily switch back to the previous family assuming that is allowed from edit town), but as someone else mentioned earlier fewer clicks are required to switch families from nraas than edit town.
