Can't deliver a meal in opportunity

I have an opportunity to serve a group recipe. It didn't work when I made a meal (clicked "serve") so thought I had to learn an actual recipe. Bought a book and learned recipe and made that meal, dragged it into inventory... and it still says 0/1 recipes served. I tried several times. I tried either dragging from counter to inventory or counter to fridge to inventory. I've tried having no other food in there. I've tried having several plates of the served meal in there. Nothing works.
This is exasperating. Earlier there was a problem with a glitch with getting a car out of my inventory (it would not move) and I've had other glitches. I paid for this freakin game so I'd like it to work!!
What am I doing wrong?? I can't deliver the meal because the option is greyed out. It says I don't have the proper ingredients in my inventory. I'm sorry, they said ANY RECIPE and it didn't specify the quality, though it was nice quality. What can I do? I've had like 7 different problems today I've had to google like... is it even worth playing the sims anymore??

Drag it to your inventory from the counter and select the action by clicking the other Sim. This makes it easier, and if you need to whip up a second batch to appease them, they're right there and waiting."

Personally, I've never had a problem delivering a group meal. I whip one up using the 'serve' option. I do use a recipe I've learned, but I imagine you could serve them hotdogs if you wanted. I then click on the group meal plate and 'put away leftovers', which sticks it in the refrigerator. From there, I open the refrigerator and put the group meal into my personal inventory, which then gives me the 'deliver' option. Click that and I'm off. Sometimes the target moves, at which point I exit whatever vehicle I'm in, open the map view, and wait until they arrive at their destination, then click 'deliver' again.
