Houses folder
I want to build houses on my laptop but play the game on my desktop. This game doesn't have cloud/sync save though. Anyone know how I can copy the houses from the laptop and put them onto my desktop (ie what folders houses go into?).

Sorry if I sound like an idiot - but there is a folder named "tray"? If so I did not see it in the Sims3 folder in the steamapps/common folder. I see steam_tray files, but not a folder. Do I copy these files?

There is no tray folder for TS3, that is a TS4 solution.

What you can do though is save your houses down to the household bin in Edit Town. Each one will be represented by a cryptically hexcode named file in the Library folder -- this is in your TS3 user game folder in Documents, not in the Program Files area. You can rename the files, that's not a problem for the game, if you can catch each one as it's saved/created going by its Creation and Modification date/time. Those files can then be transplanted (copied) into the Library folder of your other system.

Hmm ok. Too bad it's so complicated but I think I follow. Thanks.
