It's either that or use the options menu to turn off the wild animals.
I used to get horses suddenly appearing inside my houses, and even get stuck. Then, there was a problem with a horse getting stuck in the floor of the gym. This happened to a number of my families. I should have just turned them off in the options menu, but I got so frustrated that I uninstalled Pets. That broke my game, and I had to do all sorts of stuff to get the game running again.
They said they bought ALL of the gnomes, so I'm thinking they didn't notice that some had the signs, and they were giving the game conflicting messages by having both the encouraging sign and the discouraging sign at the same time.
They do NOT affect the small catchable animals such as birds, snakes, lizards, and squirrels however.
