Why are the sims 1 and 2 not available for purchase?

Unless I'm missing something why would EA not put the sims 1 and 2 on steam? (And from what I know you can't get the sims 1 or 2 on Origin as well).

I don't mind paying $60 for The Sims 1 Complete Collection digital edition on Origin/Steam.

I do have the retail disc version, but unable to use it because of no disc drive on PC and even if I do, I don't feel like having the disc to be in drive all the time. Digital is the best choice and I hope EA can make it available someday if the licensing won't be the main problem.

TS2 already in my Origin library and I can play it just fine.

Exactly, it's strictly done for marketing purposes only - no one will bother with the Sims 4 if they realize that the previous versions were better and that results in less money for them. And we know, EA won't allow that to happen.

There's an app called Mercari that lets their users sell used and new items including video games. You can get Sims games on there for like 5 bucks a pop. Pretty sweet. But yeah, I'd like to just be able to buy Sims 2 here. It's my favorite of the series.

Sims 1 had real life celebrities within it (which creates some legal stuff) and it doesn't really run well on Windows 10 without external support (at least from my personal experience). Plus if you alt-tab from Sims 1 on Windows 10, it ♥♥♥♥♥ with your game and you have to restart.

Another possibility is EA simply just does not want to sell ultimate editions of Sims 1 and 2, which they have every right to do, or they might see Sims 1 and Sims 2 as dead pursuits simply because Sims 4 (and to a lesser extent Sims 3) is still incredibly popular. Thing is if EA could easily do it if they wanted to do it; my guess is they don't see a business reason to do it
