Becoming a business partner question.
One of my sims has a wish to become a partner in a local business, and the wish's wording says to do that by purchasing real estate on the computer. I know what business I wish to use for that, but whenever I try to use the computer to purchase real estate, the business doesn't appear on the list that appears. Do I NEED to use the computer to fulfill this wish, or will it be fulfilled if I have my sim go directly to the business and use the "Become a Partner" function?

If you go to map mode and click on the company (icon)you want to buy the option to become a partner should appear in the pie menu.

Yeah, I know. That's what I meant by going directly to the business in question. But what I want to know is will doing it that way fulfill the requirement for the wish, or does HAVE to be done via the computer?

Okay, Sometimes we can't really be sure what is intended behavior with certain aspects of the game like wishes that seem to be overly specific in their description.

But in all of this time (if you were actually playing your game which of course you might not be right now) you might have done a save (as) and tried it the lot command way to see if that fulfilled the wish. Seems like it should, I mean the end result would be the same in terms of still being a business partner. But if it didn't register that way, then you could quit without saving further and be right back where you were before.

The wish can be satisfied either way, with a catch. My experience has been that purchasing businesses on the computer makes you a full owner (it comes with the full owner pricetag), so becoming a partner cannot be satisfied when purchasing on the computer. The "become a business owner" wish can be satisfied either way, but will take two visits if you choose to go to the business (once to become a partner and once to become the owner).

A couple of cautions, however. First, I run a boatload of mods, so one or more of those might be affecting the game's behavior on this. Second, the game isn't real observant and will pop the "become a partner" or "become an owner" wishes even when there are no businesses left in town for you to invest in.

Why would that stop anyone? Seems like the way to proceed would then be to somehow get rid of the current partner/owner household (we'll leave how to do that to players' imaginations). Or somehow wiggle one's way into the household that is the current partner/owner by asking to move in or maybe marrying one of them.

I guess it could be that your sim is already the owner of all possible properties in town so maybe they have to sell some off first. Or it might be a signal to the player that more ownable venues are required in this town.

Might potentially be a lot of work to satisfy one wish and not really be worth it all, sort of like the one where our sim wants to marry the sim to whom they are already currently married, but still seems like there should be plenty of ways to accomplish this. :)

I tried to sell a "lightly used" bookstore, but I thought my asking price was too high, so I told myself to take a hike.

Thanks to everyone who chimed in on this, but I learned the answer by just testing it and seeing what happened. The game should really make this more clear, but the wish to become a business partner can be fulfilled just by going to the location and doing it there. Your sims do NOT need to do so through the computer. One of my sims is now a part-owner of one of Bridgeport's businesses.
