how do you get a dna sample?

I have a quest to get a dna sample that I could use help with. I read that you get your science up to lvl 8 Mine is lvl 9 you then click on a sim and select special then science. I can select special but then all that comes up is nerd, genius and family there is no science under the special selection. What am I doing wrong?

I believe they also need to have a good relationship with your Sim, so make sure they are at least friends.

Sorry forgot to mention The sim I am trying to get the sample from is listed as girlfriend in the realtions bar. If it was a reationship requirement I would have expectied it to just come back with a negative responce to the request. In this case I can not even make the request becasue the popup is not appearing.
Its a good point though about the friend ship level needed to be high thanks for the assistance. Any other thoughts on the matter?

I thought the option was supposed to also be under "Nerd" in addition to Science. Did you check that one?

I had not but once I got your response I pulled up the game to see.
Regrettably all that is under nerd is 3 options "enthuse about comics" "berate ignorance" and "boost about gamer skills." Nothing for dna.
However my nerd up to "sci-fi fan" a little over half way. Anyone know if it needs to be higher to get the dna sample option. I don't see it listed as a qualification anywhere on the web just lvl 8 science.
Also just to experiment I tried finding the science option under special both while in a group with the person I was trying to sample and without a group neither option gave me the science option.

You don't need "Nerd" for the Science career stuff.

Have you tried it on other Sims, besides the girlfriend, that your Sim is friends with? I'm wondering if she's potentially glitched.

I had not, just did sorry to say same result . Good idea though didn't think of it.
I also asked the girlfriend to move in and then pushed her science to level 8 this morning to see if she could get a sample from someone. Same problem lots of options under special but science is not one of them . Any ideas?
This is getting frustrating. Is there a console command I could use to instruct a sim to get a sample or force the science tab to show up under special. Not looking for a cheat just a way to get sims that are able to be able to use the ability.

Hrm, do you have mods or custom content installed (apart from NRaas mods and store content)? I'm trying to think of things that could interfere with this.

Only mod installed is the nraas_overwatch I use it to stop all the little mini freezes the game does when I play the map near the water. Something cove or falls can't remember at the moment. Thats it all it does is remove and stuck sims and resets them when they wander off map.

Out of curosity I even just tried starting a new family getting one of the characters up to science 8 but still no science tab under special. I am beginning to wonder am I looking in the right place can anyone find the get "dna sample" option that can direct me to the right location incase I am just looking in the wrong spot.

I wish I had more ideas to help. I don't have a Sim with a Science skill that high, and I've never tried it myself. I also can't find any instances online of people saying they can't get samples. It's baffling...
