The Sims™ 3

Is this playable on Steam Link with an Xbox 360 controller?
Title says it all. I was having trouble finding an answer through googling, so I figured I'd just ask here. Thanks!

Dang, okay. Thanks for the help,

I've actually done it, but it's not convenient or comfortable. Sims 3 really thinks you are using a keyboard and mouse.

How bad is it? I want to get it for my wife for Christmas and she doesn't really like playing on computer, also my screen is pretty messed up and it just makes TV/Link play a lot more preferable. If it's too difficult, I'll just go a different route.

The sims 3 pc version wasn't made for controllers, but if were you, i'd get the steam controller for your wife as it's great for those games that doesn't have controller support.

Yeah, I should have mentioned above that I have a Steam controller, not an Xbox one. You would certainly need the Steam controller due to its flexibility and the fact that there are profiles set up for it for Sims 3.

That said, I really couldn't use it. The game just isn't made for a controller, so you pretty much have to use the controller like a mouse and set some buttons for game speed, camera and so on - it doesn't work that well. And the game has a lot of text that doesn't scale well to a TV and is impossible to read from a few feet away.

Hrm, alright, sounds like I'm gonna go that different route then. Thanks again.

You really don't even need the keyboard. I only use it for exact lot placements in edit town mode. A mouse with a center wheel, is all you need.

Yeah, for most people, the game is mouse heavy. I am more of a keyboard user - even using my computer normally, I'm using keyboard shortcuts rather than mouse clicks for most things. For me the deal breaker, though, was the badly scaled UI and text.

HAH! So it's not just my settings. My laptop runs with 1920 x 1080 and if the game is set to ANYTHING else, I can't read any text. Even with the resolution set, some of the lettering is squished in the middle. I haven't had an issue with any other UI, other than the wall visability tab not staying open long enough to switch without accidentally exiting out of buy/build mode by trying to make the walls appear. But, I think I had that issue with the first Sims and 4 as well.

And, if I had better access to my keyboard while playing, I'm betting the shortcuts would be very handy.

It may sound crazy, but try lowering the game resolution and see if that helps. My laptop has a native resolution of 3840 x 2160, but I can only read in-game text if I set the game itself to 1366 x 768.

I did. every setting that my laptop can be set to (that the game options have) either crashes the game or distorts it so bad I can't see anything. The graphics are fine. The text isn't unlegible either. It's just like one or two pixels in the middle (height-wise) that gets scrunched.

Ah yeah, I see what you're saying. Sometimes the text is just... fuzzy or weird or whatever. My desktop is pretty standard, normal resolutions and whatnot, but yeah, still weird text here and there. Whatever they're doing to render it in is very prickly.
