Supernatural Pack - How Invasive?
Hey, all. I've been eyeing the Supernatural DLC for the last several times it's been on sale, but I'm on the fence. Basically, I'm worried about a repeat of the original Sims "Makin' Magic" expansion which essentially derailed the "have a normal life in the Sims" play path and turned the whole thing into one giant fantasy game. All I really want out of the pack is the stuff - Build and Buy mode components - but really have no need of having zombies, vampires, fairies, and who knows what else running around an otherwise normal town.

So my question is how invasive is Supernatural? Can it be scaled back? Or is it once it's out of the bottle there's no putting it back?

Thanks all for insights.

The different life states (fairies, witches, werewolves, and vampires) can be turned off in the demographics tab. This will have almost no effect on premade sims who have an assigned life state, but should keep the random stuff to minimal levels. Zombies, however, require a mod to extinguish, or you'll need to set the lunar cycle to a non-full phase (it's also in the settings) so that they don't spawn. I use a mod (Bye Bye Zombie) because I do enjoy the lunar cycles, but it's personal taste and both methods work.

Moonlight Falls (the world that comes with Supernatural) has a lot of those preassigned life states, but they don't seem to crop up very often in other worlds if they're turned off on the Demographic tab. Sim University (University Life) might be the exception in that regard. I've seen a few vampires crop up among the students even though I have them turned off.

Supernaturals is a great pack and I enjoy the heck out of it. If you don't like the supernatural aspect, it has a world map, furnature sets, and a few other things.

If you're okay with mods, you can get NRaas Register to control the population of animals/pets and NRaas Story Progression to control which supernaturals are enabled. There's a toggle in the options menu but it doesn't delete the supernaturals that were already in your game before turning them off.

all in the options go and disable supernatural sims and set the moon to one singular phase and the zombies wont come out

Like other people have said, you can turn off supernaturals in the options menu, and use Nraas mods to deal with the population of these kinds of sims that may already exist in game worlds. I was doing this for a while, as the whole reason I got the pack was so my author sims could write horror novels (hey, I got it on sale, so no big loss there).
They only really make sense in the Moonlight Falls worldspace anyway, since they're part of the lore of that town. Nonetheless, I stopped disabling supernaturals as soon as I discovered how much fun fairy sims are.
I should mention that zombies cannot be disabled without a mod, but that's a temporary state that I'm pretty sure only affects sims that are "townies" (e.g. don't have an assigned home) on the full moon.
