Sims on Mac?

I accidentally bought Sims 3 but I only own a MacBook. Is there any way I can still play this game? Thanks!

You will need access to a PC with the Steam client installed, but only to retrieve the product keys. Log in on the PC with your Steam account, get the keys, and then redeem them either through your Mac's Origin client or at thesims3.com (log in with your Origin account and use the "Register a Game" link at the bottom of the page). Once that is done, the game and any EPs/SPs will be added to your Origin account and you can download the Mac version through Origin.

Origin is EA's digital game delivery system, sort of like their own version of Steam only not as good. If you are up to date on your Mac OS, it's also now the only way to install the Mac version of the game because the retail store discs can no longer be read.

Also note a couple of things before you proceed. The Mac version of the game is crippled in that it can only address 2 GB of RAM no matter how much you have installed whereas the Windows version can work with almost twice that. That can be very limiting if you intend to install many of the Expansion Packs or play long-running games that progress far.

Also note, again if you stay current on your Mac OS, that Mojave will most likely be the last one that can run the game at all. Apple is dropping support for 32-bit applications entirely and the writing on the wall is that the next version of the OS, not yet named and probably to come out in Sept of this year, will not run it. There is no 64-bit version of the game for either operating system.

I still play TS3 on my Mac, but only by having Bootcamped Windows onto it and playing the Windows version of the game instead.
