Sleeping bags...cool at first
So yeah, you get sleeping bags with Generations and they come automatic when you have a slumber party and all the teens/kids staying over get one....so cute at first. Then....

Then they never sleep in their beds again....unless you delete the damn thing, or play them to go to the bed of course. Still, all your friends will whip it out whenever they are tired and wherever they are...the park, their own home, ouside the movie theather...etc.
I swear the coding of this game makes me laugh as much as it annoys me! My teen got tired on an outing so while my sim parents played the piano and guitar for tips the teen, along with her boyfriend just up and slept on the sidewalk. Saw another friend sleeping in the park right near the roller rink and my own two kids constantly sleep in them rather than their 8 for comfort expensive beds.

Just a bit of a fun rant...I know it's just a game and it's all algorithms and coding. Still, please feel free to share other rants some of you have about their sims. :steamhappy:

In the code, there is an advertised value for every interaction depending on their needs, traits etc. So for example when a sim has a low fun need, that sim has a higher chance of choosing that is highly advertised rather than lower. For example, this is the code for "Play_Guitar":
<?xml version="1.0"?> <base> <Interaction name="Sims3.Gameplay.Objects.HobbiesSkills.Guitar+Play+Definition" /> <Object name="Sims3.Gameplay.Objects.HobbiesSkills.Guitar" /> <CodeVersion name="BaseGame" considerCodeVersion="False" /> <Current_Tuning> <Disallow DisallowAutonomous="False" DisallowUserDirected="False" DisallowPlayerSim="False" /> <BaseAvailability> <AgeSpeciesAvail AgeSpeciesValue="T,Y,A,E" /> <MotiveThreshold MotiveThresholdType="None" MotiveThresholdValue="0" MotiveBelowCheck="False" /> <MoodThreshold MoodThresholdType="None" MoodThresholdValue="0" /> <SkillThreshold SkillThresholdType="None" SkillThresholdValue="0" /> <RequiredTrait type="MusicianChip" /> <RequiredTrait type="AbilityToLearnChip" /> <Occult OccultRestrictionType="Ignore" OccultTypes="0x0" OccultTypesHumanAllowed="True" /> <CareerThreshold CareerThresholdType="Undefined" CareerThresholdValue="0" IncludePastCareers="False" /> <Lot AllowNonGreetedSimsIfObjectOutside="True" AllowNonGreetedSimsIfObjectOutsideUserDirected="True" AllowGreetedSims="True" AllowOnCommunityLots="True" AllowOnAllLots="False" /> <World RestrictionType="None" Types="" Names="" /> <Room AllowInTombRoomAutonomous="False" AllowEvenIfNotAllowedInRoomAutonomous="False" /> <Misc DisallowedIfPregnant="False" DisallowedFromInventory="False" /> </BaseAvailability> <Check type="All" value="0" /> <Tradeoff name="Play"> <Localization autoGenerate="True" /> <Time value="1" addRoute="True" /> <Exit funExit="False" stressExit="True" interruptible="False" /> <RouteLeadIn allowed="True" /> <AskJoinInteraction joinable="False" /> <AllowAutonomousReinforcement allowPraise="False" allowScold="False" /> <ScoringFunction alwaysChooseBest="False" name="" specificCommodity="None" /> <ActionTopic name="Action Music" ActionTopicUnavailableAfterActionFinishes="False" /> <Output> <Change type="Fun" advertised="10" locked="True" actual="10" updateType="ContinuousFlow" timeDependsOn="False" updateEvenOnFailure="False" updateAboveAndBelowZero="Either" /> <Change type="SkillGuitar" advertised="420" locked="True" actual="420" updateType="ContinuousFlow" timeDependsOn="False" updateEvenOnFailure="False" updateAboveAndBelowZero="Either" /> <Change type="AdultEnjoyParty" advertised="200" locked="True" actual="200" updateType="ContinuousFlow" timeDependsOn="False" updateEvenOnFailure="False" updateAboveAndBelowZero="Either" /> <Change type="TraitVirtuoso" advertised="200" locked="True" actual="200" updateType="ImmediateDelta" timeDependsOn="False" updateEvenOnFailure="True" updateAboveAndBelowZero="Either" /> <Change type="BeAtBonfire" advertised="200" locked="False" actual="0" updateType="ContinuousFlow" timeDependsOn="False" updateEvenOnFailure="False" updateAboveAndBelowZero="Either" /> <Change type="Orientation" advertised="75" locked="True" actual="75" updateType="ContinuousFlow" timeDependsOn="False" updateEvenOnFailure="False" updateAboveAndBelowZero="Either" /> <Change type="BeInCoffeeShop" advertised="50" locked="True" actual="50" updateType="ContinuousFlow" timeDependsOn="False" updateEvenOnFailure="False" updateAboveAndBelowZero="Either" /> <Change type="BeInRebelHangout" advertised="50" locked="True" actual="50" updateType="ContinuousFlow" timeDependsOn="False" updateEvenOnFailure="False" updateAboveAndBelowZero="Either" /> <Change type="ServoBotMusician" advertised="400" locked="True" actual="400" updateType="ContinuousFlow" timeDependsOn="False" updateEvenOnFailure="False" updateAboveAndBelowZero="Either" /> <Change type="TraitFutureSim" advertised="-100" locked="False" actual="0" updateType="ContinuousFlow" timeDependsOn="False" updateEvenOnFailure="False" updateAboveAndBelowZero="Either" /> <Change type="RoleCafeteriaWaiter" advertised="-200" locked="True" actual="-200" updateType="ContinuousFlow" timeDependsOn="False" updateEvenOnFailure="False" updateAboveAndBelowZero="Either" /> <Change type="RoleLocationMerchant" advertised="-200" locked="True" actual="-200" updateType="ContinuousFlow" timeDependsOn="False" updateEvenOnFailure="False" updateAboveAndBelowZero="Either" /> </Output> </Tradeoff> <Notes Notes="" DesignerNotes="EP11 - Second Tuning Pass - JoshLee" LastChange="8/22/2013 2:41:49 PM" /> </Current_Tuning> </base>
The ones in the bold are advertised values. They affect how much that said sim wants to do that interaction instead of other interactable things that are around the world. If my sim has Virtuoso trait, he/she will want to play guitar more ("TraitVirtuoso" advertised="200"), but if my sim is from the future, he/she is less likely to play guitar ("TraitFutureSim" advertised="-100")

The "actual" values are how much that thing actually changes. For example like you could make fun gain from playing guitar advertised=100000 and actual=0, and your sim will strongly want to play it and your sim will think that he/she will gain really high amount of fun, but actually that sim will gain 0 amount of fun because actual value is 0.

Just wanted to get a bit technical here. Hopefully not too much :)

Edited to change the code to actual code :D

Missed this bit lol. What frustrates me most is that when I have my sim in a community lot with lots of sims they all want to interact with my sim at the same time. And in all of that it is really hard to cancel interactions and intruct my sim to do stuff while all those idiots try to talk to him. Which causes lots of routing problems as well because they all come towards him, blocking access. Just let him go for f's sake

I am clueless about coding, but I do think I understood some of what you are saying. So like one of the sims, Marty Keaton, will not stop playing in the damn sprinkler! Any time, no matter the weather...the moron giggles like a schoolgirl and plays in the damn sprinkler, at parites, instead of sleeping...all the time! He loves the outdoor, but it 's more than that. Other sims that have that trait and they don't do that nearly as much. So they obviously coded him to really love that...he's also the easiset to get to cheat on his wife and kid. Nearly all my sims, male and female have slept with him. LOL... (I'm open...whatever) Basically when I play, if my sims seem to really hit it off with a another sim I hook those two up. I am half and half on playing with full free will. It depends on the game. I have 5 different saves and each are unique. Two are about 75% free will, one I almost compltely control (my favorite) and the other two are half and half. I enjoy them all and it is fun to see who likes whom"naturally".

And you are SO freakin right about when they gang up on your sim. I get mad enough to slam my poor mouse, good thing it's tough. It also sucks when they bottleneck a doorway! UGH ... and don't even get me started on elevators!! I Hate Bridgeport...I only have one game set there. LOL It's fun in a lot of ways and there is a ton do do there, but damn the elevators! You spend half your day geting out of your building (I moved my sim to a house as soon as I could afford it!) or you spend half your time getting to whatever floor to fullfill a wish or objective.

Thanks for the info. =-)

Yep, had that happen once too. I got rid of the sleeping bags and stopped having slumber parties. Then teen parties are more fun anyway with everyone passing out all over! LOL

Haeloth - I have a question that's been bugging me for a couple months now, is there a way to look at prom pictures and the like so they are bigger? I have managed to do that with the one you take at the fair by clicking the pic and pretending I'm going to post it, "to my wall" but you don't get that option for some pictures, like with prom. I can fuss with it for 30 minutes trying to set it on a table or hang it up, but it's so tiny.

Also it bugs the crap outta me that you don't have better control of your sims phone pic's, especially for portfolios or to paint portraits. I have a lady who's a fashion person and when they tell you to take the pic you are so close you just get their face in the frame and zoom barely zooms at all. WTF is up with that? If I try to get further away they no longer will pose and walk off! Am I missing something or is all of this just they way of the Sims 3?

lol..i agree, i put the bags in the kids rooms and find my adfults in them half the time (this is because they get super sleepy and hit the frst sack instead of their own bed"..lol They are cute for slumber parties but best to delete them from your house or you'll be waking up adults and making them go to their own bed 'cause it's just irritating..lmao

I also hate what horrible parents sims are (auto sims of course) especially with babies or toddlers. Who lays their baby down on the ground in a park in the middle of nowhere and just walks off to get a snow cone and skate? LMAO I've even sims who didn't come back for it at all and tried to go home. Of course I got the message about leaving the baby...but WTF Sim-coders?
Once I moved a copy of a family from one of my other games into a town with my new family (I wanted them to be neighbors) and I watched them leave their two toddlers outside overnight. I tried to get my sims to help, but of course you cant interfere with other sims that aren't your household.
When playing on auto they just throw the kid in the crib when they scream never mind they need to eat or pee. I've had many of my sims leave them screaming to play with the cat or dog. They are way better with pets on free will than their own than babies or toddlers. This has been my expirence even with the nurture trait, family oriented trait and Super Nanny reward.... I find that strange.
I did have one babysitter in Bridgeport that I watched often and she was amazing at taking care of the toddlers and babies! I had a baby and two toddlers and she stayed with them almost the whole time every time we went out. (and we had a pool, hot-tub and muscial instruments) I forgot the sims name, but it was a lady and she was darker skinned and a young adult or teen with blonde hair. Best baby-sitter in all the towns I have played BTW.
