Question about simpoints
Do you get simpoints for buying the base game and expansions still (and through Steam)? I was thinking of gifting a copy to a friend next time its on sale and then just havving them gift items from the sims store to me.

Not a biggie if this is no longer a thing. Just curious.

Why waste time and real money on content EA cut from the game and attempted to pass off as items you needed to buy on their stupid SIMs store when you can go moreawesomethanyou instead.

Yes I'm willing to pay for the base game, stuff packs and of course the expansions but the store worlds and other junk they clearly cut off from the game to sell as additional digital purchases are things I refuse to buy into. Hence being moreawesomethanyou. And kissing_toast was a God send in this regard.

The foregoing diatribe against EA aside, the short answer is "it depends on the content." If you purchase and register all of the EPs, you get Riverview (base game), a lot of themed stuff related to the EP, and a few thousand SimPoints. I don't remember how many SimPoints I got for each, but the total wasn't even enough to purchase one of the Store worlds, so less than 10K for the whole shootin' match.

Riverview is about the only worthwhile reward for registering. The rest is kind of EA's way of saying "thank you for purchasing our overpriced content, so here are some goodies to lessen the sting." So if you're purchasing because you're a good friend and want to share the fun of the game, you're thinking along the right lines. If you think your friend is going to be able to send you something really cool with those SimPoints, it's probably not going to work out as well as you are hoping.

Nah, I have the game on Origin with all EPs and know the store system (and how terrible EA is :greenfrog: ). I was considering buying a copy for a friend since I can't steam share and knew they wouldn't be into it enough to bother with simpoints.

I was also just generally curious how simpoints were handled at this point.

It's difficult to know. When I got the base game, I got 1000 sim points for registering, plus another 1000 for World Adventures, and another 1000 for one of the other EPs.

But considering you can get WA on sale for $5, giving away $10 worth of Sim Points for it didn't make sense and I think they stopped that. AFAIK, you still get 1000 for the base game, but I'd wait to hear from someone who bought and registered it recently.

yeah, that was my thought. If I bought them the Sims 3&University pack at 75% off for like $7 and they got 2000 sim points that's $20 on Origin. Not that I need to break the game any more with more stuff, just curious.
With all EPs (SPs are excluded, blame EA's greed) you only ever get a maximum of 2,000 Simpoints and worse, you can't purchase their premium sets (especially their worlds) with it as they insist you purchase simpoint packs instead to purchase those. Greedy sons of...!

Yeah, I realized they'd stopped selling some of the worlds and packs for Sim Points and sell them for cash only (like Dragon Valley) and realized the sale pricing on Sims was likely the reason. Can't have people getting a good deal, now!

I only received 1000 Sim points, for the base game. The only things that I received for registering the EP's that I have, were the in-game objects. No more Sim points were awared for registering anything other than the base game. Everything was registered within the last 3 months. Do you not get any more points for certain EP's? Because I haven't received any more. I have Pets, Ambitions, Late Night, Seasons and Into the Future.
You get another 1,000 from WA.

You used to get 1000 for WA and 1000 for Ambitions. I'm fairly sure they've stopped those since you can buy each for $5 on sale, and giving out the EP plus $10 worth of points for $5 is a too-good-to-be-true kind of deal.

Wait, so we could get 3,000 Simpoints total for free?

1k from basegame, 1k from WA and 1k from Ambitions? Did I get that correctly? Or do we only get 2k max as I got the game plus every DLC available here on Steam (KPST obviously excluded) during Winter Sale 2017 and I did get 2k Simpoints after I registered everything in the store.

I've bought Ambitions in the last couple of years (here on a sale), and did NOT get 1000 sim points.

I just got Ambitions during the last sale and registered it last month and didn't receive any Simpoints for it.

Yes, back when the EPs were new and you could only get them at full price. They stopped when they started allowing sales.
