New Frustration...Gift Parties=no space?? GRRRRR
I have had a gift party at my current household before and there was enough room (once the party started even I moved the gift pile to the center of the living room and that worked fine)
Now there is not enough room. WTF? I don't understand why! The living room is huge and there's enough open space to put a large dance floor! (I know I've done this for teen parties!) So what gives? I put all the furniture along the walls so there would be enough space.

I Googled this issue and the only thing I found was something about it being near the front door, but that doesn't make sense because 90% of the houses in this game don't have a lot of space at the front door. I just exited the damn game because I did a save the day before the party. Once again, any assistance will be appreciated.

Also, why did like 4 people show up that I did not invite, but 3 of the people I did, did not show up?? It wasn't an accidental click, it's a family of 4 that I always invite.

What’s the point of a gift party anyway?

What's the point of any party in the Sims?
I think they are fun, and I like to watch them open gitts, and sometimes you actually get things that are unavailable buy in build/buy mode. Twice I got the Jamming guitar, and you usually can't get that unless you're a 5 star celeb. It sounds really cool and actually makes the songs they play sound just a bit different. Also, your guests usually stay longer with gift parties in my expirence with this game.

Back to my issue for other readers. I tried removing every bit of furniture and had an empty room that is huge! I emptied the Dining room which is an openn floor plan to the living room and cleared the foyer. I still got the same message and when guests showed up they brought food but not gifts. So WTF? Another effin glitch? So much for Overwatch and Error Trap on that issue!
IIRC, the party rug requires a 4x4 free tile space despite the fact it only covers a 2x2 area. As I said, unless I recalled things wrong you need to have a 4x4 open space where the inner 2x2 tiles is where you place the rug. It needs the 4x4 area for routing each SIM that goes for their present.

I stated that it is a HUGE area. I can place a large dance floor in the middle of the living room and still have 2 squares around that. Thank you though.
I did some hard-core searching online and FINALLY found a problem I may have. (I'm writing this before testing the theory) Apparenly the overhead lighting can interfere with this thing too. I have several overhead lights in the living and dining rooms. -- It's just so dumb...wtf were the dev's thinking with this? At the very least they should have given us some info on what to change, or perhaps letting us place the damn pile thing before the party so it can be where we want it to be!

It has to be a glitch of some kind. I tried everything, from removing rugs to every light, I deleted every piece of furniture, etc. I had a gift party in this house before and there was less space. I've had them at other homes and towns and there were far smaller rooms with lots of clutter. So IDK. Whatever, no gift parties for this family until they move or something. (which I've been planning on anyway) It's just so irritating and why the developers of these games miss so much it's as if they don't even play them. I have found loads of info from players who complain about a lot of the same stuff, modders fix these issues all the time, but the deveopers rarely do anything. It's a crappy way to run a business IMO.

Like the whole cheaing or unfailtful thing. My married couple has been together for many sim years wihtout even flirting with someone, yet because they dated around before they don't get the faithful moodlet? Stupid. You should not be considered cheating or unfaithful unless you're married or in a commited reltionship aka "going steady". Just flirting with someone once shouldn't be considered dating them or even a romatic interest.
