My Sim suddenly can't cook
I have a stove, counter, working oven, and ingredients. I try to cook but the options come up grey-ish and I can't make anything. I closed the game, restarted the computer and tried again. I bought a new stove and fridge but that didn't work either. There's nothing blocking her path since I haven't moved anything around in the kitchen. I finally decided to quit withput saving but when I returned the problem was still there. Any suggestions?

Go into build/buy mode and delete the stove and rebuy it. That seemed to work for another simmer that couldn't get their sim to sleep in a bed. Also make sure that there is enough space in front of it. Maybe another object is occupying the same space?

I guess I should have specified that I also bought a new fridge and stove. Super expensive ones in case it was on a whim of hers haha. Thanks for the suggestion though. And yeah I haven't moved anything in the kitchen. She was using it fine. There's nothing around those areas that interrupts her.

I found the post I was thinking of from a couple weeks ago. That post suggested deleting the object(s) in question and replacing them (In that case it was a bed). If replacing the items that no longer work, you can try resetting the sim through the console window.

And when I said to make sure there is enough room, I was meaning for the animations to take place. I had a stove that was two squares from my dinning table. My sims had no issues, unless someone was seated at the chair closest to the stove (end chair that was one and a half squares from the stove). That moved the chair into the animation space for the stove and sims refused to use it while someone was weated there. Don't always go by the boxes when you place the items. Someitme the sims still can't navigate around objects, even when the placing boxes say that everything is clear. I read that that can occur with beds that don't have two squares of open space around them. But, it could just be an isolated bug. Others will be around here shortly to offer other tips and help.

If any of these ideas work, let us know. I like to keep these things in mind, just in case I run into them during my playthroughs : )

Thank again. What do you mean by reseting the sim through the console window? How do I do that?

I call it the console window. I'm not sure of the official name. But, it's the window that opens up at the top of the screen when you press crt+shift+c. It's used to type in codes of various degrees. Anything from debug commands to cheats. The reset sim code will reset any sim and send them back to a "safe" zone. For instance, if a sim gets stuck and can't move, you can reset them back to their home, and they will go back to their normal routine. Resetting your household sims will do a number of things. It will reset them if they get stuck or are otherwise unresponsive. And it will also reset any wishes that they had selected (you lose any that you have). And finially, it will remove any moodlets that the sim has. Traits, perks and skills are not changed.

So, to do this, first hold crt+shift+c.

Then type in: resetSim Firstname Lastname.

Alternatively, if you are using NRaas' Master Controller, you can just click on the sim and select Master Controller, Advanced, and then reset sim. NRaas is a suite of mods that helps the game out by fixing some bugs, preventing other bugs from occuring as frequently as possible and generally improves the game and performance. The site has a number of mods that are very helpfull. If you don't have any of these, I highly recommend looking them over. The ones that are must haves are: Master Controller, Error Trap and Overwatch.

Just caught your other post. You might try resetting your sim. It sounds like it got bugged a little.

Oh that's quite a useful tip. I gave up on the game for the noght but tomorrow I'll check it ut and let you know if it works. Thanks!

Also, a Sim needs a clean, accessable countertop space in order to cook so you might look into replacing a countertop, or even just seeing if they're too dirty to use.

YES! cruinne's advice is perfect if resetting them doesn't work. I found out by accident because I'd put paper towels and a flower vases and stuff on the counters, even though it appeared okay, they didn't have room to prepare the meal. They wont use the table, only counters or islands.

So I tried the reset thing but sadly it didn't work. I just noticed though they they act as if there was something in the way. There's NOTHING in the way. At all. Near or around. I still moved the kitcken things to a different room but my sim and her roommate still act as if something is blocking their path.

Tried a double stove? I think i had this once. Something stopped him from cooking.
After placing another stove he start using the new one. After that i replaced the bugged one and removed the double one.

As well as the stove, tried replacing the counters?

I just restarted the gae. I did all the suggestions. Replaced everything and moved things to differet places to no avail. Sad, it was a good game.

Could u add a screenshot of the kitchen? Also verified the game files through Steam?
ZaggRukk Mar 4, 2018 @ 8:06am
It could be a bad floor tile as well. Try reflooring the area. It there is a square that won't change, you've found the problem. It could also be a hanging light that is too low. Don't give up quite yet. We still have ideas that might help : )
