Sound attached to Sim glitch
I have a horribly annoying bug that I want to get rid of. Today I was playing with my sim and she just finished drinking a juice. Then she started to walk towards the trash compactor to clean it up when I gave her a new command so she won't get bored after she finished with her task. However something went wrong and now the trash compactor's sound is attached to her! I tried many things, make a new save, exit, return, moving her out then in again, buying a new compactor, verifying game cache, even deleting package files but to no avail... worst of all, it got to the point that it started to effect all of my sims in other saves. I'm out of ideas and this makes the game unplayable.

I have the base game, Pets, Seasons and Generations. Dunno if that counts but the compactor I used that made it all buggy is called "The Compressor".

I tought about some other things.

Before doing a fresh new re-download installed game, a virus scan on your pc and a cleaning job i would try three little things...

-Looking for a process taking a very high % of the cpu in your task manager. If you have one while your are playing sims3 would be a good indication of a virus. Much more while you are not playing it or doing anything on your pc.

-Scan the sims 3 folder with your anti-virus by right-clicking on it and scan.

-Use a specifique program made for sims3 to do it that i am always using before and after installing each new content like mod or CC. It's very well made and may be will help you identify corrupt files in the game and even correct it.

It's seems you have nothing to loose no...?

It's an old program but it's working very find. It's The Delphy's Dashboard.
I give you the link
http://modthesims.info/d/387006/testers-wanter-sims-3-dashboard-tool-updated-20th-june-2011-v1-2-4167-38743.html

Download it, install and scan each files of the sims3 you can scan. It's simple to use and well explain on the downloading site by it's dev.

Thank you very much. I'm definitely going to try these as well. However just as I mentioned, I truly moved all my saves prior, uninstalled the whole game from Steam then re-downloaded again (it took many hours, like 4 or 5 till it was downloaded again) so that's why I was puzzled that the glitch was still there. Buuut I'm not planning on giving up just yet and gonna keep trying. Something's going to solve it at the end, right?

So... yep, got a long day ahead. Thank you again, I hope this struggle is finally coming to an end and I can return to simming. :)

Happy gaming!

I know I have mentioned this many times, but for some reason I never get any exact acknowledgement. Or sorry, maybe between the two forums I've just been missing it. You keep saying that you are removing your saves. I keep saying that the entire user game folder, the one called The Sims 3 in Documents that includes your saves among many other things, needs to be pulled not just the saves themselves. Have you actually pulled out the entire "The Sims 3" game folder, not the one called "Saves" and run a new game on the totally new one that will take its place on the next launch?

Yes, I pulled out the whole Sims3 folder from my Documents, not just a fragment. I'm sorry I wasn't clear, this is how I meant. This whole folder was out so the "clean'' game could generate a totally new one.

Drats. I was hoping (against hope) that we had a misunderstanding there. I guess you should feel special that you are the only one having reported such a glitch that we know of across three help forums now and it being so persistent, but I guess that's not much consolation.

Sorry if this seems like a foolish question, but on the new game on the new user game folder, the glitch returns even if you do not place or use trash compactors? It's not required to have one. I've never had one (in real life).

Haha, I would happily pass this to someone else though! Well not really, just joking; it'd be wrong to wish something like this. I just want to return to simming so bad. Still, I don't want to give up and there are methods that won't hurt trying. There are no such things as non-fixable glitches, are there?

Well... that's a good question. I mean, I always use them in the game.. I guess I could play without them but the thought that something is still wrong and not fixed would bother me so very much. I guess I'd hate to sweep it under the rug. :)
Next time I launch Sims3, I'm going to check it out. Got a feeling it's still there but I'm going to investigate.

Pc and games are only lines of codes..of course you will finish by solving the problem.

There is only three way to keep the problem.

-Still have it in your pc
-Re-download it each time.
-Or just make a mistake or an oversight.

Continue, you'll have it...!

Sorry i think i have a weird way of thinking...lol.

But,...

I had other ideas....

It may look like a non important point but i think about the sounds drivers. For an obscur reason i have the feeling the problem can be located in an audio section or codec, so inside the heart of the game.
I don't know if i use the right words.
If you were francophone it would be so much easier for me :cozyspaceengineersa:

Maybe if the driver is obsolete and the specifique audio format used by the compactor is not well supported by the device the sound is running in circle and stuck there. It could explain it survive the re-installation, the jumping from save to another. No.....? When the sound stuck is it always after you haved used the compactor in each saves or it's appear anytime...?

Is it logical or am i totally in patatoes...?

An it's a detail but when you did all your re-installation, the 5 .cache files in the documents/electronique arts/sims3 section where they erased....? There is a form of audio cache there i think. The Compositor one....?

I think you could try just update you audio drivers an erased the 5 .caches files....!?

As you see, your problem still running in my head. Please solved it....! :tank:

Thank you for the tip. Right now I'm taking a small break from this, it's been in my head since it first happened and it may sound silly but I'm totally drained. This will be my last, last resort. If it fails... Well, I may post it on more places. Also if you don't mind, you can spread the word and ask more people if you have time. I don't want to sound too demanding, I must let you all know that I'm truly thankful for all the ideas I got. It's just... I guess if this happened to me, others can get this problem as well and in that case, we'd know the reason behind the glitch and could provide a solution to anybody else that struggles with the same.

Thank you again for all advices and replies. It really means a lot to me.

No problem, i understand it very well.

But if i were you i won't try the drivers side in last, because it's much more easy to do then re-installing everythings.
And if it's just that, you will also be able to play your old saves, sims and towns since the problem will not in fact be related at the game but only at an not up to date thing in you pc.

I give you a link to help you update your drivers https://www.driverscloud.com/en/features

Good luck and yes let us know about your progression...!

Frankly I've seen tons of glitches and bugs in games but this one takes the cake.
Besides Steam, I've posted this question on 2 more sites already (one being EA's Answers just as Igazor asked) and no one has a clue what it might be.
About recreating worlds... dunno if it'd fix it as the glitch affects brand new clean saves as well... but I guess it's worth a try, got nothing to loose. And task re-creating. She did not stop her action even after I gave her a new command. Instead she just finished cleaning up the juice box then started doing my command afterwards, that's when it all started..

It's a total mystery. xD
Have you fixed it yet? If not, try going to ea support online, and message one of the people there about it

Haven't launched Sims 3 since but I'm going to give it a try today. I'll inform you when it's done but I don't think anything is going to change...
