The Sims™ 3

The Sims™ 3

Sound attached to Sim glitch
I have a horribly annoying bug that I want to get rid of. Today I was playing with my sim and she just finished drinking a juice. Then she started to walk towards the trash compactor to clean it up when I gave her a new command so she won't get bored after she finished with her task. However something went wrong and now the trash compactor's sound is attached to her! I tried many things, make a new save, exit, return, moving her out then in again, buying a new compactor, verifying game cache, even deleting package files but to no avail... worst of all, it got to the point that it started to effect all of my sims in other saves. I'm out of ideas and this makes the game unplayable.

I have the base game, Pets, Seasons and Generations. Dunno if that counts but the compactor I used that made it all buggy is called "The Compressor".

I had a problem like this in the past but i don't remember what i did to solve it. I think haved just reset my sims.

Try it...

Open console with CTRL + MAJ + C
enter the code resetsim *
Do enter and don't forget the little star.
Every sims will be sand at a secure place, most of the time near the front door, you will loose nothing.

If you have the mod master controller you can also try with it to reset the lot and/or the compactor.

I tried this before and did not work. I literally tried everything. No idea what has triggered this glitch. Nothing seems to work and it's driving me crazy.

Things I tried: reinstall, moving Sims 3 folder from Documents folder to let the game generate a new one, Nraas + those mentioned above.
If you haved reinstall the game and still have the problem with a fresh new save, not an old save you are keeping, sorry i really don't know how to help you...!

Maybe Igazor or Cruinne will have answers for you...!
I noticed the OP's thread on the EA forums before here and the best help I could come up with was are you certain this is really a new game folder and try to play without trash compactors (they aren't essential) or at least without that one model.

Not exactly solutions in either case.

Was hoping someone else could spot what could be causing such a persistent effect that it survives reloads of the game, cache clearing, and the user game folder rebuilding, to the extent where it crosses over into other saves.
I haven't even seen anyone else with this exact same problem. It literally came from nowhere, unexpected. However one minor thing: she decided to clean up the juice box all by herself when I gave her a new command to do. Just as doing so switched the little juice box's icon to her portrait (those tiny icons on the top left, the command section). I haven't thought much of it but could it mean something related to this issue? I'm pretty sure it's the game thinking the sound must come from a sim - like they were the compactor instead - but it's still not clear why none of all these possible solutions help and why it affects all the other sims (both from old saves and new) and not just this one.

I wish it could get fixed somehow. I'm really sad. :(

Still, thank you anyways! Even though it's still unsolved, I really appreciate the help.
I did some more tinkering with no results. There's literally nothing more I can think of to find a solution.
It's ridiculous. If anyone's interested, I can make a video of how it looks like. The bug itself would be one thing but not having a fix at all... plus it's a game-breaking glitch. It makes the whole game unenjoyable. If someone can solve this, I'm seriously gonna salute that person.
Yep. And imagine it happening out of the blue. One moment everything's fine and you're gaming happily, the next moment all of it is gone. I've spent a lot of time on my sims, especially the last one. Most skills were maxed out or close to it, reached the top of her job, had a large collection of gems etc, friends, you name it. I loved the game with all its imperfections and I still do but this is too much even for me. Until there's a solution I'm not going to play unfortunately. Really sad and upsetting but that's how it is... :(
If i were you i would try something,...Uninstalled it totally from your PC. I mean make it very clean.

-Config panel, programs, uninstalled a program, right clic on the sims 3, uninstalled.
-After this,....to make it clean in steam folder, go in Steam/Steamapps/common/ the sims 3 and delete everything in the file.
-Do a ccleaner job on your pc and restart your pc.
-Re-download the game and try it.

Your problem may come from steam backup files witch are re-used when you re-installed.

Sorry for my bad english....!

Hope this will work....!

Have you tried posting the question on EA's Answers.HQ board? Again, this is not a widely reported bug, I've never heard of it being that persistent. But maybe one of the helpers over there has seen it or other players who have also encountered it.

We can blame EA for shipping a flawed game for many reasons certainly, but I wouldn't be so quick to write this one off since it's not exactly a widespread problem.
Best way to fix most glitches is just to recreate a new "World" and move your sims family into said "world" you wont lose anything except your friends but those can be made back. I tend to do this after the crashes/horrid stutters start to appear after like the 15ish sim week mark hope it helps :cozycrashfish:
This might sound dumb, but have you tried re-creating the task and letting your sim complete it?
I tried uninstalling everything. Completly. It was one of the first things I did. Saves moved to a new drive so the game would generate the basics with pre-made sims, basically a fresh start. The glitch was still present. Okay...
Frankly I've seen tons of glitches and bugs in games but this one takes the cake.
Besides Steam, I've posted this question on 2 more sites already (one being EA's Answers just as Igazor asked) and no one has a clue what it might be.
About recreating worlds... dunno if it'd fix it as the glitch affects brand new clean saves as well... but I guess it's worth a try, got nothing to loose. And task re-creating. She did not stop her action even after I gave her a new command. Instead she just finished cleaning up the juice box then started doing my command afterwards, that's when it all started..

It's a total mystery. xD
It seems impossible that wiping the game completely from your computer then reinstalling and starting a fresh save, and this bug would still be encountered. It makes me think things are not being wiped completely and something is being carried over.

Alternative: the computer has some sort of virus or malware that's causing it as a bizarre side effect.

Does NRaas ErrorTrap provide any logs of errors going on? If not, I think I'm back to the virus/malware suggestion.

Yeah. I'd say the same if it wasn't me, believe me. It seems so non-logical and dumb but unfortunately it's true and I'm puzzled as heck.

My computer is hardly 2 years old and mostly used for gaming so I doubt any viruses or the like are present. The only websites I'm visiting are strictly safe, I try to be as responsible while browsing the internet as much as I can.

I tried reseting the whole town with NRaas before with no luck. I also didn't get any errors as far as I know.
Ok,...so i think the real question is what kind of answers are you expecting...?

Are your searching for a solution to play again with The sims 3 or a solution to play again with your loving sims of that bad saves with the glitch...? You whant to correct the glitch or erased it...?

When you say...I can make a video of how it looks like. For me it's look like you still have all the same game you had problem with in your pc and did not re-installed and clean the right way or you are just skeeping one or many step.

In clear,...i don't think you will be able to play again with the sims you whant. You have to say good bye to them.

After that, here you have many players with lots of hours of play how encountered many problems and they are all saying to you the same answer in different words.

That answer is a...... very fresh new install of the game.

That mean....clean everythings. The pc side, documents side, steam side, virus side, cache clearing side, garbbage side.
Moving files from one to another it's not enough.
Doing a new world and a new save beside the old ones it's not enough.

If you had really done all it's written in this tread by all the helpers and made it the right way,....excuse me to say that but, like cruinne said....It's seems impossible that your kepping the problem....!

Maybe you are doing something wrong or just don't whant to try it the right way because that means loosing your sims....?

Sorry if i am a little rough with you but here's a problem very to "much weird" for me.

Don't forget...

There' EA side with all the bugs we all know from them, but there is also Steam side that is frequently forgot and the possiblity of a virus that are at my own oppinion a very good guess.

Again sorry if i say what you don't whant to read. I would be very happy if you solved your problem and it's why i'm writting this.

Bonne chance....!
