How to deal with burglars
I just had a burglar try their luck with my house, cheap starter house, so I was already a bad mark to pick, now I got his name and next time I play I will sell everything in my house, even the house itself to the last piece of flooring, then make sure I can't reach the garbage disposer then I will be as friendly with him as I can be to move in with him, but instead of moving in with him I'll trade house with him. Then I will find out where he works (Which oddly enough isn't as a criminal) buy the building and fire him.

How do you deal with burglars? And, is there anything else I can do to make his life a living hell?

Good luck with that. Burglars are commonly homeless Sims. They are called out to do a particular task (burglarize your house) and when they go home again they just kind of head off to the edge of the map and disappear into wherever it is that homeless Sims go. It's possible to befriend them and get them to move in with you, but getting their house might be a problem since they don't have one. You might get lucky and have a genuine townie instead of one of the homeless, though; I've tun into one or two in Riverview that were regular NPCs. In that case, you can do whatever other players do to torture Sims. Walling them in and letting them starve is one way, getting them into a pool and then removing the ladder so they drown is another; you might also try setting them on fire - be creative.

As far as dealing with them for real, spend the $900 or so to get a burglar alarm (it's in Buy Mode with the kitchen stuff - click on the smoke alarm to find it). If you set the alarm on the inside of the house, it goes off as soon as they come in the front and summons the police, usually before they have a chance to steal anything. The alarm is supposed to go off when they enter the lot if you put it on the outside, but I haven't tried setting it up that way.

Yup, got an alarm. As for the methods of killing them, well I wouldn't want to end their suffering too soon, but on the chance that they are homeless then I think I will do just that.

You will find that a new burglar spawns to take their place after a sim day or so. Burglars are Service Sims just like maids, butlers, babysitters, social workers, and grim reapers. There are no shortages of them, the game will keep making more when it thinks it needs to unless it is somehow modded to do otherwise.

I wouldn't be interested in the kill and suffering things myself (this is just me), these sims are only doing what they are trained/programmed to do. From their vantage point, it's just a job or service position like any other. :)

What I sometimes do is forego the alarm and make my sim brave and athletic, let them fight the burglars themselves. In either case - whether my sim wins or loses the fight - the burglars don't take anything and just run away instead and you don't have to deal with police.

Have an alarm system both in and outside of the frontdoor.

Did everyone who talks about alarms actually read what I had to say? I have alarms
Secondly, did anyone actually read my first post? I don't need help against burglar

Figure it out!

To be fair, you did specifically ask how we cope with burglars ourselves in our own games and that is kind of the nature of some of the responses you are getting.

IMO they are just flavor sims. I had one sending me gifts after he tried to rob me. What I do is have an alarm outside my house. When he/she arrives on my lot, I wake my sim up and call the police. I once tried to trap him and I removed all doors but the game just stalled until I put them back. The burglary is like a play with a set sequence. He robs you and gets away, the police catch him or the police catch him and he gets away. Either way you get insurance money or your stuff back.

Also try using testingcheatsenabled true and when Mr.Burgler comes, SHIFT click on him and click remove object. two more times from 2-3 and no more thives. Works with cops too. In case it is needed, do same but SHIFT click the mailbox and summon a cop. Admin way.

If one is hoping for a long-running ongoing game, it is never advisable to testingcheats delete a sim of any kind as if they were an object in TS3. Doing so deletes their body but their sim data remains in the game and can too easily lead to data corruption and ruined game saves the next time that particular sim is called upon to do anything. This goes for residents, NPC service sims, stray animals, any of them.

Lock the doors of your house to only allow you to enter

Best guess on this is that burglars override those settings. Exterior doors are already set to exclude everyone except the member of the household (that's why "invite inside" is necessary to bring NPCs into the house), but they get in anyway.

I keep getting the same thief try to get in my house, but my alarm on the door always catches her, the locking of the door deters them by quite a large percentage i found.

I know the two or three who are trying to rob me, Funny thing is they have jobs and live in a residence. I wish you could train a pet dog to attack them.
