Sims 3 Pets keeps crashing

I just bought pets. It was working perfectly fine until I put a dog in my household. It's keeps crashing on me. How do you fix this?

I don't know what those are. I didn't add anything, just bought the expansion, and installed it. I didn't add anything, but the expansion

OK. The game often crashes due to running out of memory or from overheating. The first is more likely, and it generally happens because the game sucks at cleaning up - that is, Sims wander around the town, get stuck, and then the game keeps trying to unstick them, and failing. After a while they pile up, and eventually can crash the game.

Adding Pets usually makes it worse because in addition to this happening with Sims, you also have it happening with dogs, cats, horses, deer, racoons, skunks, and so on.
