Adding Pets usually makes it worse because in addition to this happening with Sims, you also have it happening with dogs, cats, horses, deer, racoons, skunks, and so on.
There are mods that help with this. See my guide, below, section 3.9 - it lists the mods and has a step-by-step on how to install them.
