FPS at 500+ Help.
So just until the other day Sims 3 ran great on my laptop, but about 3 days ago I began to notice the game running poorly. I checked the FPS and the Steam overlay said the game was running at 546 FPS. I checked the box in the options for the game to run at 60 FPS, but that did not help. I do not have any mods, just a few expansion packs. Has any ever had this problem before, or does anyone know what I can do to fix the situation?

This is a common issue with better video cards.

The usual fix is to set VSYNC in your video card options for Sims 3. If you don't know how, let us know what make video card you have, and we can try to offer instructions.

I went into my Nvidia settings and switched vertical sync to on and applied it. I ran the game and the fps are still up there.

Did you first select TS3W.exe in the drop-down before ticking vertical sync on in the options?

It's important the file is TS3W.exe, not the launcher and not some other TS3 executable.

I checked to make sure that it was the TS3W.exe and it was the one I originally checked. I launched it again and still had the problems, but now my games refuse to load, so I deleted all of my Sims 3 files and reinstalled. Launched it again and I am still getting the same thing.

I have ATI Radeon graphics and I went into my ATI Radeon videocard controll pannel.(located on my task bar)

It had seperate settings for each game that I had installed.

I just clicked on my Sims3 Tab .. in ATI Radeon Controll pannel ... and I saw the option to limit framerate (for Sims3).

My first time ever setting fps limit was successful

I'm still trying to figure this FPS issue myself (as having 100-200FPS might explain why my laptop overheats when I play Sims 3, and why the game lags at times).

I use Intel HD Graphics, which doesn't really allow for game-specific settings. (And turning on Vertical Sync did nothing).

I found a dll that allowed me to limit the FPS to 30, which was nice, but it messed up the graphics (the screen became way too bright, and the grass textures wouldn't load correctly, plus each zone would take forever to render the objects, way longer than normal).
The fact that the dll was made for Skyrim may have contributed to the problem.

@jmantruck34 - Are you sure your computer is set to use the "High Performance GPU"? Sims will often choose a less-good GPU when it starts up. For example, if you have an NVIDIA card, but also have onboard Intel 4000, it will often choose the Intel 4000 instead.

Also, when's the last time you rebooted?

@cruinne-Under the NVIDIA control panel I have the Sims3 set to run on the GPU, and when it is running my GPU activity icon shows that the games are running on it. I downloaded the NVIDIA Experience and set the game to run on optimal settings making sure v-sync was turned on in the control panel with no luck on the issue.

I can't vouch for "NVIDIA Experience" - I just use the NVIDIA control panel itself to set the settings, under the 3D area.
