How do I get a pet without an expansion pack?

I believe you can have fish without the expansion pack.

If memory serves, you can learn the Fishing skill and then put the fish that you catch into a fishbowl. There is a Lifetime Wish that goes along with the Angler trait to have the perfect aquarium (catch Perfect specimens of various fish and put them into fishbowls), so yeah. Fish is about it if you don't have Pets.

There are pets available in the Store, but they won't work without the Pets EP. Dragon Valley (a Store world) lets you have pet dragons without Pets, but it costs more than an EP. Aside from that novelty (oh, and the violin), it's way overpriced for the content it delivers.

Basically, buy pets if you want pets, into the future gives you some kind of holographic pet rock, and dragon valley gives you dragons, I think pets also added in the bird cages and stuff, so, really if you want pets, gotta buy the pets expansion , or those other equally or more expensive things to get fewer pets.
