Is it normal that sims in the city move out?
I remember a long time ago I had this savegame were I got bored. I went to my annoying nighbors and exploded (destroyed) their fridge, lbed and some furniture in the bedroom. A few days later the home was inhabited. The same happened when I destroyed a music player further away in another neighbor house that never shut up. They were just "gone" a few ingame days later.

That's Story Progression. It moves sims in and out, controlls the immigrants occult status, etc.

there are other story progression mods, like Awesome mod and NRAAS Story Progression. I like the NRAAS SP because you have a lot of control, - but it's complicated and takes time to learn how to use it.

Do you use mod? There is a mod that makes people move in and out of your city. Story Progression is a mod that will cause households to move out. Also if you have Story Progression checked in your game play menu it say it self "Allow sims to move in and out, have kids, and progress in the story" other then that I don't know maybe they finally had it with you XD I am not sure since I never tried destorying my nighbor's house or items all I would do if they where annoying is evict them XD

When this happened I never used any mods...

I can (also) confirm that sims do move out even without Nraas' Story Progression mod.
So yes, it's normal. If you make your sims read the newspapers, one the things they could read about is households that have moved out or moved in the world.

I've also had a case where sims I have moved out using the kick out option, have moved out completely from town lol.

I think it also was because I demolished things that is required for a family to live in a home. You need to have a fridge and enough beds for everyone in the family for them to live there. And some other basic things. I tried to move my sim out of a home without enough beds for everyone (not enough beds for the rest of the family) and it caused a message saying I needed those first.

Probably the game removed (moved out) the family because these premisses were missing.
could also be that they just starved w/o the fridge... doesn´t explain those without their beloved music player though... maybe they were music addicts and got bored :D

That's the point.
The game's default Story Progression (enabled on the Options menu) makes background events happen to Sims you're not currently playing as, like marriages, babies be born, random deaths, people move in, people move out, etc.
(As well as allow Sim families you're not currently playing as to gain skills, money, etc)

The problem is, EA's default Story Progression isn't very good, as it doesn't take things like Traits or Relationships into account. So you could end up with a family of 5 suddenly have the father up and marry some total stranger. Or a neighbor family you like just suddenly up and moving away (i.e. deleted)

For the most part, it's because EA's vanilla Story Progression only checks the town's demographic/population.
If the town's population goes over a certain hidden number, SP kills or moves out random people until the numbers are within the limit.
Or if the population is too low, it pairs up Sims randomly (even if their Traits are incompatible, or they already are in relationships, or don't even know each other), and has them have children.

That's one reason NRAAS Story Progression is viewed as superior to the game's default one, as it DOES take things like Traits, Relationships, etc, into account.
And it also allows you to adjust its settings to your liking.

Kind of.

Because there was now one less habitable house for Sims to live in, that likely lowered the town population cap.
So EA's Story Progression compensated by removing some Sims.

I'm too afraid of installing those mods as when I tried to install overwatch and errortrap objects ceased to work and unloaded from my saves... (veteran modder of several games so I clearly know I installed them right also taking mind the version check).

Strange, I added those mods to mine, and I've never had any problems. I'm hardly a veteran modder myself, but I've never had any issues.
They were each just one small file (.package format) that you drag and drop in the right folder.

You did add the two files to the C:\Users\YourName\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Mods\Packages folder?
Packages folder, and not the Override folder?

Yes. I know how to read installation manuals and I have already added 2 custom furnitures I made (edited) myself. If I didnt install them there the game shouldn't have detected them in the first place. When I loaded up the game I at once figured something was different because the loading screen was suddenly the standard one (not themed for the future DLC like usually) and the game opened with 2 new modscripts loaded. I loaded my save with a message saying "stuff are missing from the game and could not be loaded" which resulted in lots of objects in my home getting replaced. Including objects like DLC related furniture AND family photos taken in photoboxes and paintings. My character was even missing his hairstyle so he was just Bald...

Before installing I made sure to Install the CORRECT version of the mod based on the game version. I had the latest origin version of the game. I followed all guidelines on NRAAS website. Im too scared to try again in case it will just mess up my world even more.

I has something kinda like that happen once.
However, it was after I'd installed something custom clothes.

It was a simple enough fix, to use Nraas Master Controller's Stylist option and switch her back to the correct hairstyle.

Recently, a prop she had got removed.
However, the game had been acting strange before this, and I suspect ErrorTrap removed the object due to it causing an error.
I later repurchased the object (after using Master Controller to add the required funds (only seemed fair to reimburse the Sim for an error destroying the item))

Furthermore, I had that issue where a family photo didn't load in the frame, until after I cliked to open it, and selected the picture within it, thus putting in back on display.
------

Considering the mod reports it has to remove 6,000+ cars each night, I get the feeling I'd have massive glitches and/or lag if I didn't use it.

Is the mod causing problems, or is the Sims 3 really that bad at de-spawning cars?

I dont know. Im over a 100 sim days into this save. The mod just removed lots of objects. It probably messed up the whole city so no... If it is going to mess up everything I wont use it. The game works well besides the tiny weeny freezes sometimes Ive gotten used to. or if you can tell me otherwise. It seemed like whole DLC's unloaded with the mod.
