Is it just me or is there no point in doing laundry?

You get a + Moodlet and Hygiene after changing clothes, so for me it is worth it.
Is this part of base game?

Laundry was introduced in the Ambitions EP. Having a clothes hamper triggers the whole deal - with a hamper alone, Sims will do laundry at a laundromat, or with a washer and dryer or clothesline, at home. Laundry stuff comes with the Ambitions EP, but also with the Town Life Stuff SP, and the University Life EP has a laundromat. There is also laundry stuff at the Sims 3 Store.

Laundry is just one optional thing to make your Sims happy/keep them busy all day. There are moodlets like "Soaked" (from a cheap washer), and "Defeated the Washer" (for quieting a cheap machine). There are positive moodlets from having clean laundry around, or, you can forget the fabric softener and watch them get a static shock out of it :-)

It keeps the house clean (if your sims tend to throw laundry around when showering, changing, etc.) and you get a positive moodlet for clean clothes if you have a decent washer/dryer. So in a sense you don't have to do laundry in the Sims, but it'll make your sims happier.

Weird.

My sim never threw their laundry during my playthrough.

They'll only do that if you have some laundry equipment in the house - like a hamper.

Gonna try that out :3

I have never even cleaned my sims clothing. They just take a shower and somehow even though they dont wear the clothes in the shower the clothes are just C L E A N.
