Or
Desactivate full moon in the options.
But I still suggest the fence if you have Pets, otherwise deer and other things will still eat your plants.
Setting the moon cycle is in the game options from the main menu (the three dots in the lower left corner). Basically you're setting the moon to a phase other than the full moon and it won't change, so no zombies. But also no perks for Witches, Fairies, or Werewolves (not sure about Vampires).
For the fencing solution, go into Build Mode and you'll see fencing as one of the things you can add. It doesn't really matter which fencing you use since as far as the game is concerned, a fence is a fence is a fence and it doesn't matter whether it's wood, stone, metal, or just a big hedge. The rest is just what looks nice to you. Once you select the type of fence,
(1) click at the corner of the area you want fenced in and drag it to the next corner. Your fence should be at least one or two squares in from the edge of the lot. This prevents some routing problems.
(2) click at the new corner and drag it to the next and so forth until the area is completely enclosed.
(3) on the left side of the fencing window and at the bottom, you'll find the button for gates, click it to see the selection of gates. Again, the game doesn't care; a gate is a gate is a gate. So pick one that looks best to you
(4) add one or two gates into your fence. The game has a hard time putting them at corners, but dropping them into the middle of a run is simple enough as long as there is enough room (one or two squares of fence on each side)
(5) return to Live Mode, click the new gate and select "Lock"
(6) decide whether only you, your household, or specific Sims can pass through (role and service Sims aren't available)
(7) done
Zombies will not spawn in an area where they have no path to the edge of the lot and since they are excluded by the locked gate, your plants are now safe from them (and from other Sims and various wildlife, depending on the expansion packs you have installed).
P.S. You can also set it to encourage those same animals. I found a thread where someone said the "encourage" setting doesn't work properly, but it was also an old thread, so maybe they fixed it, or maybe it was a fluke that just one person experienced.
I re-installed Pets and after playing at least half a dozen different families, most of whom had gardens, the game suddenly decided to give me this problem with the wild animals getting into my fenced garden. Usually, the fences are all that are needed. They aren't working with my newest family, so I did a search on the forum and found this old thread, which finally gave me a possible solution.
So far, the gnome seems to be working, but I did see a deer on the front of the lot, and the gnome is supposed to keep them off the property entirely, so we'll see if the game keeps trying to teleport them into my family's garden. It had to teleport the last deer out once I got the gnome in place and a sim trying to shoo him out. The shooing didn't work. I unlocked the gates for him, but the deer didn't know how to get out, so the game teleported him out. I'm guessing the game teleported him in there in the first place since, as I've said, the fence is very high and the tall gates were locked.
Although your reasoning for necroing this thread maybe better than Snootch who did so to advertise a new guide, it fails compared to simply thanking the other user mentioning the gnome solution in that other thread. Necromancy maybe treated lightly on Steam thankfully, however other communities consider it a banable offence, I suggest you do so lightly if at all. The other user may appreciate knowing their suggestion is still continuing to help people far into the future and although NitePinkeve22 here seemed to appreciate this particular necro, said user also only replied to the three responses received with as many letters, oof... suggesting the OP is a particularly hard user to converse with similar to another user who sometimes posts here, Devs, who I along with someone else beside me had a particularly hard time trying to help in another community, sadly proves to be a massive waste of time as he didn't want to do even the smallest things to help us help him.
