Fan making noise- solved
So for a while now I was having an issue with my fan. Whenever I played The Sims 3, the fan would speed up so much that it started making noise during gameplay, like a high-pitched whistling sound. This was driving me nuts, especially because of how worried I was that it was bad for the fan. Finally though, I figured out a solution.

If you go into the control panel for your graphcis card and enable V-Sync and Triple Buffering for sims3.exe ONLY, it solves the problem. Apparently the Sims 3 dev team didn't consider that people would run the game on really high-end graphics cards.

nVidia was still using the Tesla architecture at the time of the base game's release, so their upper-end cards would have been the 2xx and 3xx series, with the 9xxx series being their mid-range cards. I think they had just barely cracked 500MHz clock speed on those upper-end cards and a mid-range card today is about 5 times beefier and twice as fast.
