StoryProgression needed?
Is StoryProgression mod needed if the game already has this option?
Thank you.

The game's default story progression isn't that good. NPCs will occasionally fail to get jobs or move to new ones; they don't get promoted as they should; they get married, but don't move in together; or any number of amazingly oddball things. The NRaas Story Progression mod puts EA's to sleep and then runs things according to its own algorithms and does a pretty decent job. If you're going to use it, you might want to go into the settings (accessible from any computer or town hall) and turn off or tone down the stories or you'll be pestered with incessant messages about promotions, pregnancies, the mad kissing skills of Sims that you have never heard of, and that kind of thing. The messages are cute the first few times you see them, but they become annoying after that.

I can't play without that nraas mod and all its modules. It adds so many dimensions to the game, and just makes it all round better.

Ok. Do I have to turn off this option to let the mod work?

From what I understand, you don't need to turn anything off. You just install the mod and let it go to work, though I might recommend starting over, too, so that the mod doesn't need to sort through all of the crazy situations your sims have put themselves into. Or not; I haven't used it yet, myself, but I plan to.

Do you mean turn off the "notifications"?

More likely you just slow down or decrease the actual events. But I would imagine you could turn off notifications, too, if you felt like it.

Each time you start a new game or change the game length, the mod asks if you want to disable EA's story progression and use the mod's. My impression is that it can pretty much pick up and go from whatever EA did.

The mod calls them "stories", but yes. The default is to tell you about every Sim in town, what they are doing, and with whom. The active family is not affected by the mod at all, so I usually limit the stories/notifications to family (it takes a generation or two for this to kick in), romance interests, and Friends.
