1. Open the console (ctrl+shift+c)
2. type "reset sim <first name> <last name>" (no quotes and put your Sim's name in there)
3. press <enter> to close the console
If that doesn't work, you can try resetting the entire lot
1. save the game with a new file name (Save As...)
2. go into "Edit Town" mode (lower-left menu button)
3. select the houshold
4. click the button to evict the family (they move to the clipboard, but it effectively resets everyone and everything on the lot)
5. place the family back into the house
6. return to regular game mode
You could also try putting them into a different house, but you'd need to make sure that you move anything you want to keep into family or personal inventory before doing it
A somewhat easier alternative is to just reload the save made prior to sending your Sim to prepare the meal, but you'd lose everything your Sims did between the save and the meal. Might be just a little or could be a lot if you had been playing for a while before the glitch. Saving with a new file name every hour or so of play time is generally a good idea, but you'd need to manually weed out the saves that you didn't want/need to keep as the files can get rather large.
Don't know about resetting since it just cancels current interactions and moves them to a different location, but deleting Sims using the console can bork your whole game. Better to use the "Total Annihilation" feature in Master Controller since it clears out all references to the Sim rather than just their presence in the world.
It's more than an eyesore. They can't climb out of the pool with a plate on their hand. My guy drowned. (Luckily, he had a deathflower.)
Those plates disappeared after a while. I wish I knew why it happens, so I could avoid that situation. I currently have 2 other sims walking around with hotdog plates on the ends of their arms. One was a child when he acquired it. He aged up to a teen, and the dish is still there! Another sim drowned because she couldn't get out of the pool. (Maybe I should get rid of the pool, and save on death flowers.)
"I press control shift c and type "testingcheatsenabled true". I then hold shift and click on the bowl, then I press object and delete. be careful you don't delete your sim though"
It worked!
