There are many, MANY things that can cause it. Without more specifics from you, I can only suggest going to my Guide (linked below), and starting at section 3.

For now you can likely skip some parts of it (those parts meant for people who can't even start up), but definitely do parts 3.1, 3.2, 3.9. and 3.11.

The above states MSVCR80.dll as the faulting module - this is part of the Microsoft C++ redistributable runtime. See section 2.2 of my guide (above) - I'd re-install the redistrbutable to see if it could fix issues in that file.

Other information for troubleshooting this type of problem is more along the lines of:
  • Is this a new problem or one you've always had with Sims 3? If it's new, what's changed?

  • What is your version of Windows?

  • What processor do you have? How much RAM? What's your CPU?

  • What graphics card do you have? Are your video drivers up to date?

  • What troubleshooting steps have you tried so far?

  • Have you tried using the game-correcting mods (primarily Overwatch and ErrorTrap, as in my guide above), and, if so, does the situation improve?

  • Are you running other things while you run Sims 3? Anything - from streaming services, to iTunes, to a browser? If so, does stopping that make the game more stable?
