Cannot change the controls

Hello,

I just bought the game but when I started to play I realised that I accelerate with A and my break was the keyboard key "Z". When I went to Settings to change it I realised that I couldn't change any settings in the control menu of the game. Can someone help me please. Thanks in advance.

Same here and i tried a few things like unplug the external webcam, keyboard bla bla bla... But none of them fixed it.

Hey! I fixed this keyboard problem with changing key buttons on save file... Follow my instructions to get my setup.

1- Go to C:\Users\YOUR PC NAME\Documents\Criterion Games\Need for Speed(TM) Hot Pursuit\Save\Default

2- When you go into that "Default" named file you will see a file named "controls.NFS11Save" backup it and open the original file with notepad.

3- Then clear all the things it that file and then paste my setup into that and save it.

4- Now start the game and play :)

Hi Simo,

Alright... overwrite it if you can or just copy your backup file and paste it to the direction.
Open the file with notepad, that you pasted(controls.NFS11Save). (File name is "controls" and file extension is ".NFS11SAVE")

Find these lines:
STEERLEFT
STEERRIGHT
ACCELERATE
BRAKE

And change the lines with:
STEERLEFT=0,KEY_A,0.00,1.00
STEERRIGHT=0,KEY_D,0.00,1.00
ACCELERATE=0,KEY_W,0.00,1.00
BRAKE=0,KEY_S,0.00,1.00



If it not work well, i'm not sure how to make it work on your computer. Or you can let me try it with using TeamViewer. But believe me it's simply like copy and paste :)



Just find the keys for acceleration, steer left etc etc... and you will see something like this:

STEERLEFT=0,KEY_LEFT,0.00,1.00

then change it to

STEERLEFT=0,KEY_A,0.00,1.00

What is changed here? "LEFT" to "A"

I hope it will be fixed if you find the lines and change them to whatever you want :)

i was gonna make a new Discussion with my problem, but mine is similar to the one here - I only want to use my controller for my gas and brakes - everything else i want to be on the keyboard (Nitrous/Roadblocks/EMP/etc etc - Is there way to block certain controls from being on the controller ? When I go into Controller Settings, it looks like there's no way to stop everything from being on keyboard and controller at the same time. Thanx - also add me to play online - 'JB81563'

You could also download a program that lets you change a key's output. Alot of free ones like GlovePie let you change any key on most devices(mouse, keyboard, controler, joystick.) You could make pressing "A" excute "Z" for example. Some let you exclude keys though i've never used them that much personally.

Wow i wonder if that would work for the controller while playing LA Noire too...i recently got that game and it's badass, but it doesnt allow me to use the buttons on my controller that i prefer...for example, to drive a car it only lets me use R2/L2, rather than the left/right/up/down on the cross that I'd rather use...GTA-San Andreas lets me use the cross to drive, but LA Noire won't let me....weird sht.

I had the same issue.
When I was looking for the reason I noticed that there is no file which saves controls settings in my profile folder. I have solved it by editing registry keys which define where some user profile folders (documents, desktop) are located.

I guess the reason of the problem is that Microsoft OneDrive once activated on the pc changes these folders location from i.e. %user_profole%\Documents to %user_profole%\OneDrive\Documents which can become a big surprise for every application which expects to find these folders at their native location.

My steps were as follows:

1) uninstall OneDrive (you can skip this step if you need this stuff by turning off synchronization of your profile with the cloud)

2) search in the internet the registry path of keys which define the location of user profile folders. It's somewhere in currentuser branch.

3) change the key values (remove '\OneDrive'), move your folders from OneDrive folder to your profile folder

4) reboot

5) start your game and enjoy

I had also the same issue with the remastered version.

Non-english characters in the user folder's name have caused the problem.
The control settings file (controls.NFS11Save) will not be created, if there is a special character in the profile folder name.

I've renamed my user folder using this method:
