Weird graphical glitches / random crashes? Help anyone?
Hello,

I got some problems with DAO lately. I played this game before on Win7 on an older pc, now i wanted to replay it on this pc which has Win10.

I managed to get it started by setting XP SP3 comp mode, installing legacy physx and some other stuff i found in a guide here on Steam.

Still, the game crashes a lot, mostly during fights or even at random times. Also i have these strange graphical bugs popping up randomly, like armors of some NPCs having textures changing with others depending from which angle you look at them, particle effects being made of squares like they are in low-res, textures being distorted and so on.

So, i have my latest nvidia driver, physx, all is updated.

Specs are:

GTX780Ti GPU 3GB
i7 4820K 3.7 Ghz CPU
16GB RAM DDR3 2133Mhz

I got these problems only on DAO and not on any other game i tested.

My guess is its Windows 10 working its magic compatibility issues again but maybe someone of you can get a fix for these problems? Thanks in advance!

PS: Is it me or Win10 is just a load of compatibility issues? damn.

hi not sure about textures, but if you limit the game to two core's it should stop the crashing. Worked for me.

Yeah well i fixed it by just lowering graphics to minimum, weird... my system can run 2016 games all max with no problems 60 fps... probably a game engine bug or something.

limit your cores, refresh the game integrity, lower graphics, use recommended resolution. Research will offer lots more fixes.

Same here with win10 problems, especially the graphic glitch one....Do you find any solutions other than using the minimum graphic level?

OK, Only fix is lowering graphic settings. Put textures to low, and details to high. Turn off AA. Limiting cores DOES NOT help. I had same issues and that fixed it for me. Game is old and probably that's why it's not well optimized for new cards. After finishing origins campaign you can turn it back to high settings. In Awakening there is no such problems.

You can find the unencripted dao.exe on Nexus mods. Its safe and works (2024). You can find the link on the mod page (Nexus) to the 4gb patch too.

After you patch the unencripted exe the gltiches disappears. No need to lower the settings.
