If it gets you to play the game for free, it's a solution. And this is probably the best solution you will get. Because Steam doesn't care. I've been talking to them about this for days. They just don't care, they keep saying "we didn't make the game", "contact EA"...
You should be telling EA to fix their games on Steam, not to just ignore the problem. Do you think that EA is not capable of generating new keys, or even removing the DRM completely? That is their responsibility.
If I wanted to play the game for free, it would be much faster and simpler to just pirate it rather than go through the process you propose.
This is EA we're talking about. Origin launcher literally crashes if you try to locate an installed game--basic functionality we're talking about. They know about this but haven't bothered to fix it for months, probably years. I doubt they care all that much. However, I have found Origin support to be surprisingly helpful in the past. Why do you care so much if a game is on Origin vs Steam? All launchers suck, just make a desktop shortcut and run it from there or the exe in the game directory. Or just suck it up and use Origin, which is nowhere near the worst launcher out there. (Some might argue Steam is now even worse).
still suck though
Again: If I wanted to play the game, it's a very basic process of just downloading it from any of a dozen pirate sites and then playing it. Why would I bother going through all the silliness of bothering with Origin support if the ultimate goal is to simply play the game I purchased? As you correctly pointed out, the Origin launcher is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. A pirated version of the game would be far more functional.
I want to play the game on Steam because I don't want this to be the only offline game out of thousands that I own on this platform that is completely, 100% broken. Every other game I've ever had problems with has had a usable workaround until now. That's why I buy games on Steam (or GOG) and not anywhere else.
That is incorrect, unless the game was updated very recently (since EA returned their games to Steam). The last time I successfully played MOH, on my previous computer, it absolutely did not use Origin at all.
