The final Puzzle in the true ending(999 Spoilers)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xrUwdDpnXbY

So how come it was changed? One thing I was really looking forward to do was the flipped sudoku part but this makes the true ending seem really stale and quite frankly, really dumb. Really Akane? You couldn't spell password? That's what got you killed? okay then

Umm, math is NOT required to play Sudoku. Sudoku is basically a logic-based combinatorial puzzle. Keyword here being logic-based. In the story, this puzzle is tried to be completed in a stressful situation, which lowers one's ability to think logically - a lot.

Sudoku is common, but that doesn't mean EVERYBODY knows about it. And even if you did, try to solve a hard or normal one. Hell, even easy sudoku takes a while to solve for someone who never tried one.

Well, one might not know what to think when they see a random sudoku jump on their face. Also, my previous point. Unlikely, but possible.

Sudoku are hard, unless you are used to completing them. The basic rules and methods are not hard to understand, but noisy environment and stress makes it even more difficult. I can solve easy and normal sudoku puzzles kinda OK, but harder puzzles take a long time for me. Also here, you had strict time limit (in story). And, sudoku is fully faithful to the entire Nonary Game -theme. 9x9 grid with 3x3 sections.

He, actually this thing took me ages to solve, so I completely understand Akane's confusion, especially with someone shouting "horrible burning death impending" in her ears all the time.

Of course spelling "password" is disgustingly easy, but - if you switch out even a single number before that (which was what I did), simply spelling password won't autosolve the riddle and you won't immediately know what the problem is - to throw you off even more, the letters, as per base 27, also add to the digital root, so using them within the grid seems like something the game could want you to do... Additionally, I wasn't sure pressing "hint" was a smart idea, since I didn't want to get any actual hints ;)
So, if you mess around a little and the first thing you do isn't just spelling "password" - you'll really maneuver yourself into a corner, the numbers get jumbled up quite nicely, and solving it at this point involves a bunch of time-consuming trial and error. So, at least plotwise, Akane getting herself killed by not being able to solve this in a timely manner is totally believable to me.

Ryuka, you have the dumbest logic I've ever seen on these forums.

Thanks for your not-valuable input!
It's true though

Welp, when I first played 999 I was 12 and I laughed because Akane died because of a freaking sudoku. When I was little my mother used to play sudoku and taught me how to clear them so it was very easy for me, and, who the hell doesn't know what a Sudoku is? I started laughing when all were like "oH ♥♥♥♥♥ WUZZAT?!" but when I played this version (being almost 16 years old) I really got confused. Well yes, when I discovered that what I had to do was input the word PASSWORD I laughed and thought that it was cruel to die because she couldn't notice that but, come on. This change isn't such a big deal. I don't think there's a reason to argue this way. Whether the puzzle is a sudoku or this, Akane's died because she couldn't understand it, and it could have happened with any puzzle and to any child. :ZE_Myrmidons:

Well I can barely do simple math by itself, now if I were in a life and death game for several hours, with a mysterious voice telling me I was going to die, another bunch of people all scrambling for survival, all kinds of physcological scarring, all while being a kid away from their family, stuck in an incinerator on count-down mode with an alarm going off and I had to solve an easy sudoku puzzle to avoid a horrible death in front of my brother... of course I would solve it with style and ease, right guys?

I think that the old sudoku puzzle not only was a more fun and interesting final puzzle, but it even fits the game better, with sudoku being all about 9.
