This port doesn't make justice to the original game.
The changes made to acomodate the plot twist and the fact that the most emotional moment (that make me a fanboy of this incredibly flawed game that I still love and consider my favourite) was changed. Also the narrator being in the novel screen ruined the pace, atmosphere and substracted characterization (who would stuck in that dull looking screen?), thing that I didnt realize how much it ruined the experience because I played the DS version like 3 times.

TL;DR: Play the DS version, I could not have VA (tho probably that's a positive for some people) and flowchart but its simply a better game.

That's interesting. I was debating on buying this or not since I played the original 999 on DS and have VLR on my Vita (still haven't played it, bought it on a sale years ago). I honestly don't care about voice acting so that's good to know the DS version is better.

Because of the dual screen the narrator and the junpei's dialogues could be shown at the same time one in each screen, but in the PC port its not that way. Its has a button that let you do adventure screen and novel screen. Adventure screen is only dialogue (that ruins the pace, doesnt tell you about things like subtle movements, their expressions and the like).
Replaying the game multiple times to get the multiple endings (the game expects you to do so) can be a bit tedius, but there is a skip function for dialogue that you already read and you could write down the puzzle's solutions so that you dont have think that much.
why would i want to watch 20 hours of dialogue on a tiny screen w/ no narration because somebody else is biased on the internet

i'll take the comfort of my normal gaming setup over any rumored slightly more impactful twist

Pls do. Do what you consider the most comfortable or easy for you, if you can enjoy this port then damn, more power to you. But I didnt post this for people that liked the PC port but for those who didnt so they can give a chance to the DS version. The twist didnt change but how its delivered. Also ALL OPINIONS ARE BIASED xD. Mine is from the perspective of someone who enjoyed the PC port (except for the last section) and is a fanboy 999 in general.
why would anybody try the PC port and not like it without a prior experience to base it on? If they don't like it, it's not because they're mad they can't see double dialog... it'll probably be the opposite case.

The dialogue can be a little bit wierd. Cracking jokes and doing snarky remarks in a situation like that. And i suppose that the screen most people would stick is the adventure screen because its easier to look at. Change it constantly to read the narrator on the novel screen would be too annoying. And thus the details would be ignored or passed on ruining the atmosphere and the pacing. If you tell me where you are in the game I could give you an example.(or a capture of your flowchart)
i've finished the entire trilogy, as a virgin, on pc from the start

NICE!. VLR and ZTD can be enjoyed fully in their respective ports. Do you know about the DS original ending?
And here goes the example.
Remember when junpei did the trick with his multiple pieces of paper? Welp if you didnt switch to the novel screen that secuence would gone unexplained until Ace called you out
another example would be A lot of time when you speak with Clover the narator tells you about the way she speaks and how her expresions suffers subtle changes that also is lost unless you switch constantly to the novel screen.
And I know that the narration is there. But I cannot ask to people to stuck to the novel screen (because it looks so dull to me) nor change constatly to the novel screen to check the narrator cuz it is a hassle.
sticking to the defaults, junpei sure made it pretty clear to me that he was cheating ¯\_( ͠° ͟ʖ ͠° )_/¯

i'm sure the extra context is a nice to have, if you can bother switching, but you really don't see that many people who started on PC complaining about not being able to understand the game

the DS had a different puzzle with more woah wow time speak, right? i hate sudoku, personally.

Yeah sudoku is a meme in zero escape, but it was more endearing seeing june's face in the other screen and the fact that having 2 different screens was essential in the way this game decided to tell its story. Besides that, its the same game. My problem is not of people not understanding the game but people not enjoying the game at is fullest because important elements of story telling in general will not be seen.
Here is another example: https://www.twitch.tv/tergliafera
That is the VA of Gundham Tanaka(Danganronpa) and he didnt switch to the novel screen once. That is kinda sad, and im not saying is his fault, is the ports fault.
