How important are the choices of who opens doors in 999?
Just got to the part where I need to pick two people to open the 5 door with me. I figure whoever I pick will be who I work with in the impending escape room, but will these choices have a big impact on my ending, or are they just letting me choose who I'd rather have with me without much other story impact?

Ah, well.. I mean, the door you pick and the people you decide to go with kinda go along, since you gotta match the digital roots. Not everyone can go through a specific door, if the numbers don't match, so it's pretty much the same thing.

Each team is faced with a different puzzle, resulting in different findings, clues and interactions, thus leading you to several endings. Say you decide to go with June and Clover, you'll ultimately learn things you wouldn't know about, had you decided to go with Santa and Lotus instead. Each piece you collect, depending on the team you choose, is important. Failing to find a certain clue or to interact properly with your teammates, can be fatal.
For example : talking with Ace could prove to be useful later on, when you team up with Snake.. but if you didn't talk to Ace beforehand, and teamed up with someone else, you'll lack information. (This is, of course, just a mere example, I didn't give away any important clue to you, so you can fully experience the game for yourself.)

Hope this helped somehow. :egrin:

The door you pick is actually --very-- important and impactful.
Depending on the order you choose too (door 5 on your first choice, then door 8 on your next choice and so on), you won't get the same ending.

Oh, I'm not asking about which door to pick, but rather which people to pick to open the door with me (e.g. snake and seven, or ace and lotus, etc), but thanks for the info cuz I'm sure I'd have ended up asking that too once I reached it!

Eventually, if you like the story, you'll probably go through every door with every team possible to see all of the information.

Not sure if info on good endings vs bad endings is a spoiler or not for you, so I'll hide my comment on it for now and you can refer to it later if you want. There is only one good ending, and it is impossible to achieve it on your first playthrough. You have to play through one specific bad ending before it's possible to achieve the good ending. I recommend just seeing all the bad ends first anyway because they're interesting.

Choosing which two other players to open Door 5 with at the start has no effect on the rest of the story (in fact, the Novel Mode text immediately after will still refer to the "Santa + June (3 + 6)" choice, whichever one you pick - a minor error in the code, I would imagine), since you won't be going through the door at this point; this is merely to see what happened to the Ninth Man.

Choosing which doors to go through, however, is very significant; choosing a particular door will fix the team you go with, too - i.e. you don't get to decide who comes with you through said door.
