yes you have to... i got it, you need to get the part where seven confused why the safe is not part of the puzzle.
If it actually explained the flow chart somewhere it would help, but I guess that would have made it too easy. Who would have thought that the difference between life and death was the different between Jumpy saying "Enough! I want to get out of here!" and "That's fascinating. Let's talk about random scientific experiments while we're freezing to death".
Anyway, its quite satisfying once you finally get it. Good luck!
The flowchart jumping is probably the trap here. On the old DS version you would get the endings because you had to replay the game again and again with only skipping text you already saw.
