Possible to play online with 2 local players?

Wondering if its possible to have one player on the keyboard, one on the controller, and then join a online game?

No. It's either local OR online.

it actually is, at least in my experience, if i am using my controller then switch over to keyboard to type something sometimes the second player spawns, so yes you can play on the same screen in an online lobby

This is 100% WRONG. You can have local co-op while in a multiplayer game. If you are using two controllers press both triggers on both controllers at the same time after joining a multiplayer game. If you are only using one controller then the other uses keyboard and mouse, press both mouse buttons and both controller ttriggers at the same time.
