Hold column while walking on the platform

I don't understand this game

I think this may refer to moving platforms like trains. Basically if you stand on one of the trains and hold a wall or column at the same time, then try to walk sideways, you can make said train or other wheeled platform move in the opposite direction. Either that or they're talking about narrow ledges around columns, holding onto said column in order to avoid falling off.
