capping your frames ingame didn't work for me but capping it in control panel did
That did the trick! What an old-school issue to have in a modern game. Nvidea control panel capping "Max Frame Rate" at 60 seems to have resolved the issue for controller and gamepad. Much more forgiving now.
I was able to basically brute-force my way through the scenes, but getting grabbed on my way into the basement took at least 30 tries and definitely soured my opinion of the game a bit.
My fix for tank controls was to use a controller. Keyboard & Mouse controls were completely broken, but controller worked like a charm.
