Hey everyone,

Sorry to hear you are running into that error. I know many people are able to fix this Disc Read error by installing the MP portion of the game, but that is just a workaround. We are looking into the actual issue to investigate it.

For anyone encountering this, can you please let me know:
  • Which edition of the game do you own (Standard, Digital Deluxe, etc.)?
  • Which exact error are you getting (there seems to be a few disc read errors)?
  • What campaign level or levels are you encountering this error on?

Lastly, if you are kind and generous please grab a DxDiag log[support.microsoft.com] as well, throw it onto Pastebin or something similar, and then share that with me here or through PM over on the COD forums[community.activision.com]. Thanks all.

I also have this issue, verified integrity of game files, 100+ cot valid and would be updated. Didn't notice any updates happening. Ran the verification again and said all files ok BUT still getting same freeze and error message at beginning of Death Factory. Really unhappy. Any help appreciated.

check my other / own thread and my answer on page three on this thread here:
installing the multiplayer part of the game seems to to the trick and functions as a workaround.

At least that's what all the people say who tried it.

Hey!

Glad to see you guys are finally looking into the problem (honestly, no sarcasm included).
As for the version:

- standard digital version, not the Digital Deluxe version.
Downloaded via steam, "german" version (i live in germany, hence "german" version ^_^), ingame language switched to english. No physical copy. No season pass, no multiplayer installed.

- "fatal Error: Disc read error "hurtgen""

- Error occurs every time when trying to load mission 7(?), Death Factory, a few seconds after the cutscene started. "Last time i checked, Turner was in charge". -> BAM, crash.
I've read that some people had the same problem trying to load the Hill 49x mission, but his i can't confirm.



As for the log: i'm on the go but will try to send you a copy later via PM or post in this thread.

Thanks for the response and info! Also, thank you for the intention of sending a DxDiag as well. I know that all is a bit to ask, but the better information the have the easier it is to check into the issue.

You're welcome. Glad if i can be of help.
And sure it's a nuisance, for we payed a lot of money for this game and expect it to work properly.
But you have work too, digging through countless log files trying to find a permanent solution for the current problem.
A game like CoD is not only a multimillion dollar production but complex as well: you change one line of code and can crash the whole game. OC, that's what QA is there for but even they can't test every possible constellation.

And the more people contribute now, the quicker we can get back into the game.

Oh, there is one thing i want to contribute as well: the whole "disc error mess" started after the last hotfix 'couple of days ago: the one that fixed the "open task manager to be able to start the game". No changes were made ever since on my machine, so i'm pretty sure i can exlude any other hard- or software issue (virus scan, GUI drivers etc.)

One week now and are You investigating the issue yet?
Please come the file that doesn´t have the problem back (before the update fail) and so you investigate the issue. This is the correct thing to do.

When I had MP component installed it all worked fine, uninstalled MP component a while ago, this is the first time i've tried launching this mission since uninstalling MP.

Same for me, having this problem both for "Death Factory" and "Hill 493" mission. Just like rzmarum wrote... One week and they still don't know what happend? Please... What kind of devs they are? If it's sure that it happend after last update then situation is clear. Definitly last game bought from Activision.

Version standard du jeu Francaise. L'erreur se produit en mode campagne solo, arrivé au tout début de la cinématique de la mission 7 " l'usine de la mort". Le message d'erreur : "Disc read error "Hurtgen".

Standard version of the French game. The error occurs in single- player campaign mode arrived at the very beginning of the mission kinematics 7 "factory of death". The error message: "Disc read error" Hurtgen ".

death factory, at the first video when commanders face appears. Bought digital deluxe and i have fatal error disc read error "hurtgen".
