Like several similar errors other people experienced, right-click game, select properties, then local file tab and then select “Check integrity of game” option. It found 29 faults and then downloaded 9GB. This installed the missing files, in my case ‘transport_ship’...
It is a pity Steam didn’t do this verification automatically, perhaps then they would have notice the latest update was deficient?
Hopefully this will solve it for you guys...

Same error: Very unprofessional. I have rural slow broadband and the 12.3GB upload took 6 hours and it does not work! And I have another 9GB to upload!

goto call of duty ww2 in your games list
right click goto properties
go to local files
verify intigrity of game files

you will probably get this " 29 files failed to vaildate and will be reacquired"

they will then be downloaded and you'll be able to play

Hey there,

Sorry to hear you are all running into that error. Some people have been able to fix that through installing MP, but that is just a workaround. We are investigating this and still need information about the specifics.

For anyone encountering this, can you please let me know:

• Which edition of the game do you own (Standard, Digital Deluxe, etc.)?
  
• Which exact error are you getting (there seems to be a few disc read errors)?
  
• What campaign level or levels are you encountering this error on?

Lastly, if you are kind and generous please grab a DxDiag log[support.microsoft.com] as well, throw it onto Pastebin or something similar, and then share that with me here or through PM over on the COD forums[community.activision.com]. Thanks all.

I receive the error "Disc read error 'hurtgen'" when trying to start the Death Factory mission. The intro video begins to play but partway through the message is displayed and the game dumps out to the desktop.

I am running the standard edition, and I already ran the option to verify the integrity of the local game files, which reported no problems.

Thanks for responding and reporting that as well. It is still being worked on, but did you try the known workaround of installing the Multiplayer portion of COD WWII?

The solution to the "DISC READ ERROR MISSION SELECT" is to install multiplayer. After this the single player works
I hope you find it useful.
