Campaign Length Compared to Original "Call of Duty"

So I went through the entire campaign of both COD: WWII, and the original COD that everyone keeps going on about with rose-tinted glasses.


COD: WWII's campaign takes about 5 hours and 30 minutes to get through.

Call of Duty takes 3 hours. I shi* you not. You can try and add United Offensive to that, but you're still looking at around 5 hours for essentially 2 campaigns.



Just something to think about when you write that review complaining about how short campaigns are nowadays and how they were so much longer back in the day... they weren't.

I just finished the campaign. Didn't like some of the liberties they took with history and i am not ready to think it is better than the World at war campaign i played again this year... Still a decent campaign. The lenght is not that impressive but it's ok, i judge the cod games by their content. A campaign, + the zombie stage + the multiplayer is a well round up package i am glad i picked up.

I will say this though the game is better than the way it was put together. Had sound stopping twice in campaign plus there is some frame freeze there and there wich even Infinite warfare didn't have. Still, good times.

Thankfully i had no technical issues myself. And there was plenty of stuttering with Infinite Warfare, the forums were flooded with complaints about that game's launch condition.

As for the campaign, every single campaign before took liberties with history... if you actually went back and played COD1, COD2, and even CODWaW, they all just steal movie scenes and rework them with even more explosions and nonsense.


This is not a historically accurate series and it NEVER has been. It's about as historically accurate as the Assassin's Creed Franchise....... or the Pokemon franchise..

I think COD 1 and 2 have mainly stuck to historical accuracy and have kept dramatic scenes to a minimal, which is why they are quite memorable till this day. Activision didn't try to push the whole Hollywood-esque cinematic feel into the series till COD4.

I mean.. you say that... but there's scenes in COD1 and COD2 where you're racing around in jeeps shooting at other cars. They're incredibly unrealistic and stupid.

I think the series has ALWAYS been "Hollywood-eque" but the older games looked so ugly people don't seem to realize what Infinity/Treyarch were going for.

This series hasn't changed like so many people pretend it has. It's the same COD it's always been. They've just added in an addictive multiplayer.


If anything, COD: Black Ops 3 is the only campaign in the franchise that deviates significantly. That story was such complete trash.

I don't think anyone's arguing that the older campaigns were longer, just that you're not getting your money's worth if you're dropping 60 on this for the singleplayer alone.

High speed drive throughs happened very often back in WW2 and that involved passing enemy held territories under many occassions, cuz you know the 'front line' isn't actually a white chalk line you draw on a field?

Don't know what is taught in history lessons these days, but the SAS was originally established to conduct these 'jeep raids' against the Germans.

Did I deny the fact that cinematic elements do exist in the series? Just pointing out these drive through missions were at least historically correct on a level.

Can't expect a calmed discussion in a CoD forum, as usual.

Call of duty 1= 9 hours for complete

I still want longer campaigns but you are right op. I had rebought the first CODs on Steam and thought the same thing and got around the same playtime.

I could tell the video was from someone who has played the game several times and knew the game by heart. So yes, it was rushed.

According to my time on SP, it took me 11,5 hrs on veteran.

While playing the first mission twice - first time I ended up lowering the setting during the final battle, because I wanted to finish up. Just misunderstood that one the first time.

Not all of it was play time, but most of it was. In the latter game I took more time to look for stuff and get certain achievements.

Please include your difficulty settings when posting game times, because easy vs veteran does matter.
