Updated Nivida drivers to latest version, tried old drivers, tried drivers in between, tried the dell drivers. Settled on verion 388.59 as they seemed best.
Optimize video in COD game
Reinstall redistributables from C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Call of Duty WWII\_CommonRedist\DirectX\Jun2010
Change optimize for compute performance to ON in nvidia control panel > 3d settings > program settings
Go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers" and create a key of type "DWORD (32-bit)" and name "TdrDelay" with a value of 10 as Decimal value. (I set it to 0 or 10 or 60)
Changed to balanced mode in nvidia control panel
Add steam folder to exclusions list in windows defender
Then, being an engineer and having the tools and know how, I decided to "crack" the game that I bought and remove steam. Since I don't play multiplayer this was no big deal for me. After removing steam I started a new game and BAM, everything plays flawlessly. THE ISSUE IS NOT WITH THE COD GAME, IT IS WITH STEAM. Once I removed steam, the game plays perfectly and now it's real fun. Yes only single play, and I'm playing campaign, but it is great without steam, no errors at all.
Note: I will not provide my "cracked" version of the game to anyone, because I don't condone that sort of thing, I just did it as a troubleshooting step. This is what engineers do when trying to find the source of an issue.
Steam techs and devs....... fix your program. It has some serious coding issues that cause direct x to crash during game play. For your reference here are my computer specs:
Dell all-in-one with 24" touch screen
Intel I7 6700HQ @ 2,6GHz (6M Cache, up to 3.50 GHz)
16GB, 2133MHz, DDR4 - 2 DIMMs
NVIDIA GeForce 940M 4GB GDDR3 (used for game play)
Intel HD Graphics 530 (used for basic computer needs)
1TB 5400 rpm Hard Drive + 32GB mSATA Solid State Drive
Until the steam devs fix the issue I will be uninstalling steam. I'll check back in several months to see if it's fixed or not. Good luck to everyone else.
No I didn't download anything. I took the game I bought and "fixed" it. As I said, if you would have read my post, I'm an engineer and know how to do these things. I "edited", "cracked", what ever you wish to call it and made it work for me. This is what real computer engineers do all day long. We fix mistakes devs made and repackage the .exe or .msi to a working copy. I do this in my job everyday. Also as I said I don't use multiplayer and steam is garbage, so there's no need to ban because I don't use multiplayer, never will, and I'm not using steam anymore because it's got serious coding issues. Please read the post next time you want to reply so you don't look so ignorant. I only have steam still installed so I could check this thread because I was hoping someone from steam would see this thread and fix their broken garbage.
And...... also do a search on Admin Studio....... educate yourself, so your ignorance doesn't show so much. Millennials........ sigh......
Who cares if your device is hung??

Sorry quiet day here at the asylum
That's good to know. I'm going to try this on my other computer and if it works and try to figure out why, then post any info I gather. Of course if steam support, devs, etc, don't care then it'll never get fixed anyway.
I'm running Windows 10 Pro, Version 1709, Build 16299.125
What OS, bit, version, build are you running?
